Serious problems including battery overheating

My dad and I both bought Revolutions and have had the same issues with our phones (listed below). We truly believe that the LG Revolution is a defective phone - what are the odds that we would both get "lemons"? While at the Verizon store on 3/13, the store, corporate customer service, and LG claimed to not be able to do anything for us except send us refurbished phones or return our phones to LG and have them worked on (HA. Seriously? Go without a phone? We don't have a land line anymore - might as well dump us on a deserted island). We were notified today, 3/15 that the phones were in the store ready to pick up, but they didn't come with new batteries! SERIOUSLY?!?! THE MAJOR ISSUE WITH BOTH IS THE BATTERY OVERHEATING! These phones are bound to either burn us or kill us. We don't want someone else's "fixed" phone, because it will just do the same thing! Unless Verizon will help us, I'm afraid we are going to get iPhones from another provider, as well as go to the BBB to file a formal complaint. I really don't want to, but I can't believe how much we have spent for our little death machines. We really hope Verizon will cooperate and uphold the standards they set forth in their employee handbook. We would love to be contacted by someone who can help. Please, don't give us the run-around. As anyone can see, factory resets, changing settings, etc. don't work. We have put up with those suggestions for months with no improvement.

My Dad's Revolution:

Bought LG Revolution ~July 3, 2011 for $250 + taxes & fees, car charger, (and eventually extra chargers). Over $300 total put in.

  1. Battery gets overheated to the point that the phone is too hot to touch. This drains the battery from any percentage of battery to 0% in a matter of minutes. FIRE HAZARD IN YOUR POCKET! My dad's chest was almost burned! If it is too hot to touch on the outside, what is it doing to the guts of the phone?!
  2. Not receiving text messages and picture messages that are sent
  3. Internet doesn’t work properly - only when it feels like it
  4. Loses data connection between 3G/4G/Wireless
  5. Not always getting voice mail notifications
  6. Phone burned up 2 wall chargers
  7. Freezing
  8. Phone is ringing, but the “answer call” screen doesn’t come up, so there is no way to answer the call
  9. Phone rings once and then shows a missed call. When calling the person back, they say it rang the normal number of times before going to voicemail.
  10. Not keeping a charge
  11. Called sister next door and Dad could hear them, but she couldn't hear him. He called back and he could hear her fine, but she said he was very "scratchy" - keep in mind this is NEXT DOOR.

My Revolution:

Bought LG Revolution ~July 9, 2011 for $250 + taxes & fees, (eventually, multiple) car charger(s), insurance plan, (eventually, additional wall chargers) $400+ for the total cost

  1. Battery gets overheated to the point that the phone is too hot to touch. This drains the battery from any percentage of battery to 0% in a matter of minutes. FIRE HAZARD IN YOUR POCKET! My thigh has almost been burned! If it is too hot to touch on the outside, what is it doing to the guts of the phone?!
  2. Paying for “Unlimited Data” and phone constantly says “Mobile Network State: Disconnected”
  3. Not receiving text messages and picture messages that are sent
  4. Not being able to send text messages or picture messages
  5. Getting the same text 3-4 times
  6. Sending a text once and recipient getting it 3-4 times
  7. Internet/apps don’t work due to no data
  8. Loses data connection between 3G/4G/Wireless
  9. Not always getting voice mail notifications – getting voice mails 14+ days late. This creates a serious problem for time sensitive messages.
  10. Phone burned up 4 wall chargers and 2 car chargers
  11. Freezing
  12. Phone is ringing, but the “answer call” screen doesn’t come up, so there is no way to answer the call
  13. Not keeping a charge. On a daily basis between 7:30am-12:30pm, I go from 100% to 20%. In the store on 3/13, the Verizon rep witnessed my phone go from 81% to 68% in about an hour
  14. Phone rings once and then shows a missed call. When calling the person back, they say it rang the normal number of times before going to voicemail.
  15. In the beginning, I would get email notifications and after I would read them, it would appear that they were “marked as read”, however, after I back out of the program, it notifies me of the same emails that I just read, only they’re once again “unread”. Now, I’m not getting ANY notifications of email except in the top drop-down screen, which if I click on it, I can see the emails, but after I back out, they disappear because the program decides not to work.
  16. GPS is unreliable. It often says that I'm 2+ miles away from where I actually am.

The phone does what it wants to do when it wants to do it – not when you tell it to! All of our previous phones have given us reliable, clear service. What is wrong with this picture? HELP!!!

the phone overheating, not getting or being able to send texts, and the phone ringing but nothing on screen are all problems i have. i have almost been burned as well. the customer service reps do not believe me when i say it gets that hot, they think i am over exaggerating. i am expecting a call around midnight tonight my time, to talk to a tech support that will tell me to do all the things i have already done, i am going to be persistent in the fact i want a different model phone, i hate the revolutions so much i wouldn't care if they sent me an old 3g phone.

I have the same problems. The phone gets very, very hot. I was not receiving texts on and off since I got the phone but luckily it's been working the past few weeks. My only trade off with that is I can't send or receive pictures messages anymore. I have to push end a few times before a call ends. It doesn't always ring when someone calls me. I don't always get voicemail notifications. I have to delete emails at least twice before they are totally deleted. When I talked to Verizon about it, they just want tell me to do a factory reset everytime anything goes wrong. Stupid.

thisisbananas,

I'm sorry to see you've been having so many concerns with your LG Revolution. I would like the opportunity to assist with troubleshooting and ensure this is addressed for you. If necessary, we are empowered to take advantage of the manufacturer's warranty and exchange for a Certified Like-New device of the same make/model. We will also be able to review replacing the battery as well. Please send me a direct message (AdamE_VZW) so I can assist further.

Thank you,

I have the same problems with my Revolution getting hot and then the battery draining.  Funny part is that this is on the replacement phone they sent me.  The original problem was the phone freezing all of the time.  I would rather have my original back.  So as far as Mr.Verizon Support here say's, the replacement with the "certified like new device" is a bunch of B.S.

Hi I recently had the same problem with the LG Revolution. In fact it had been one of multiple replacement models that I had received in just a few weeks. The first two devices I had problems with them recycling power, I would make calls and they would make the same call multiple times i.e I would get through to the person I was intending on calling and the phone would call them on like a three way call asking me to merge the conversation I was only having with one other person... The 2nd replacement only lasted a few days. I was playing Words with Friends it gave me a sim error out of nowhere shut down. I checked the card after removing the battery and powered it back up. I was fine for about 10 minutes shut down and I was never able to turn it on again. The next phone they sent I received a few day ltr was the frosting on the cake. As soon as I tried to set it up the problems began. The phone was recycling power so much that it wouldn't fully power up before shutting down. Tech support insisted it had to be the battery, that there was no way they sent me 3 bad phones within 2 1/2 weeks... The new battery was sent over night. So I charged it up and gave it a go. It seemed fine at first, but then started acting up again. I resorted to it wasn't the battery and figured when I got to a land line  or another line I would call Tech support. I was driving the phone was in my right lower scrub pocket apparently because of whatever mechanical defect it had overheated and burned me. I have been kind of at a loss when it comes to the Customer Service Dept. I have reported the incident to them even called to find out who to send my co pay bills too, no response. However they did have the nerve to send me a text asking for the device back or they were going to charge me $500. Now I'm thinking may be if people started taking things like this to the media they would act on it...

Dear Goldie_Schiff,

Please let us know what is happening with your device currently. Have we replaced your phone as of recently, and is it functioning better? Also, do you have 3G or 4G services where you are located? If you are in a 3G area, and your phone has the 4G antenna active, this can cause your phone to actively seek a 4G signal that does not exist, and in turn cause your phone to overheat. Try switching your phone to just a 3G antenna, and see if this helps.

Start by going to Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > System Select > Network Mode > CDMA Only.

This will place your phone under 3G services. Let's see if this helps.

There are a lot of services that may be running in the background, which can cause the phone to overheat when it may be in your pocket. I would make sure that your phone doesn't have bluetooth turned on, or WiFi as your phone will actively seek those connections if they are available. You can also find the option to disable these steps under Wireless and Networks.

Please let us know if this helps you, and any one else that may be following this thread.

Thank you all,

NicandroN_VZW

My device has been replaced with a completely different phone. In fact the

phone that overheated was one of a few that had replaced over only a few

weeks. Also I complained the same day I received it saying it was

constantly recycling power and the man I spoke with insisted it was the

battery. Obviously there was some sort of shortage within the phone. I

received a pretty bad burn from this incident and wondering why it has

taken so long for someone from Verizon to contact me. I called customer

service many times only to get nowhere fast. Even just the other day they

had the nerve to text me saying they were charging my accnt for that device

because it wasn't shipped to them. When I was told not too ship it. I was

told to bring it to a Verizon store. A most frustrating experience to say

the least.

Until I read all these others having the same overheating issue I thought my daughter must be using her phone too much or something. Now I see we need to take both phones back and ask for a solution. She has been there and had a replacement already. Still it overheats and turns off. She is on FB all the time..that is when it tends to happen....which makes it all that much worse. We have had the phones a little over a month, wish I had looked to all the comments before I let them both pick this phone for our upgrades.

Has anyone had a solution that worked yet ...is it a heavy duty battery we need  to buy ?

Of course it's something that they will want you to buy.  that's all verizon wants is to suck as much money out of as possible.  And all the while giving us defective and dangerous equipment.

I would love to find out if I can get a replacement for my lg revolution (without having to buy a new phone). I have had trouble with my phone for the whole time I have owned it and it is extremely frustrating. I believe this phone (not just mine, but the product itself) is a lemon. Can someone at Verizon please contact me?

Thanks.

This is a customer-to-customer forum; Verizon reps occasionally pop in and respond, but it's sporadic.  You might want to contact Customer Service via the Contact Us link at the top of the page.

I've had my Revolution for over a year, largely without problems.  Last night while I was in a movie theater I had to take it out of my pocket and pull the battery out, because I thought it was going to burn my leg though my pants.  After the movie was over, I put a different battery in (I have two, so I don't have to walk around asking people where I can plug in my phone).  The new battery went from 100% to 55% during the 20 minute drive home, and heat warnings actually came up on the screen.

I have to assume the problem is with the phone itself, because surely both batteries wouldn't mess up in exactly the same way at the same time.

Wow...I thought I might be alone in my problems!! Nope!

I have had many of the same problems you are all having. I have had my phone for a little over a year. I have had one factory reset done already. I went to the Verizon store yesterday and they are supposed to be shipping me a new phone to arrive today. I really do not have many apps or go above anything other than the usual facebook, email, internet uses.

My problems have been:

Not keeping a battery charge or poor battery function

Not ending calls when I push the end button

Screens locking up

Phone shutting down at random times

My phone actually ANSWERED a call without me even touching it; I had NO idea anyone was even on the line

Text messages not going through or going through hours after I sent them

Not getting incoming texts

SLOW startup time

Incredibly slow screen times (going from messaging to home)

Shutting down apps or locking up when it feels like it

The battery does get incredibly hot, but I haven't thankfully had the battery issues that many have had

Like I said, all of these problems started about six months or so after I got the phone. I had the reset done and it was fine for a couple of months. Now they are back and they are back with a vengence. The girl I spoke with yesterday at the store told me it was probably a software issue. I think the phone is just a piece of junk. I had another LG phone several years ago and I had some of the same issues with it. I should have learned my lesson. NEVER again will I buy another LG phone. NEVER.

I took my phone to a local verizon store and was told it was a "troubleshooting" issue and that I would have to call verizon customer service. Haven't done that yet. I don't know if that would be helpful.
