Text has white borders around it, makes the display look ugly

I was wondering if there was any way to turn this off since it's obvious that it only happens some of the time (mostly when there is black text on a grey background). It completely destroys the purpose of having such a nice display, and I see many reviews also mention the problem. Are there any plans by LG or Verizon to fix this? Samsung devices don't have this problem.
