Why can't I delete emails in my YAHOO trash on my phone? It says there are 999

When I access my YAHOO Mail account on my phone it shows 999+ messages in my Trash folder but no matter what I do I can't delete them! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Use the Yahoo mail app not the stock email app.

Then it's the Yahoo app's fault.  Try another app or add to Gmail.  Yahoo is all but extinct.
