Go to Wifi settings then the menu and then advanced and turn Keep wifi on when scree is off to No. This has worked for me successfully for over a week.

Same issue here. As soon as I leave the house in the morning, all my alerts from the night before slam my phone at once.

Thanks for the suggestion, it seems to have corrected the problem for me also. Just hope Verizon can get their act together and fix all the bugs in this "lollipop" update....from reading the forums, there are a lot of unhappy customers out here, since this "update" !!

You can also toggle WiFi with Airplane mode. When you want to use WiFi, turn on WiFi and Airplane mode. When you want to use LTE, turn off WiFi and Airplane mode. You will get notifications as long as WiFi, and LTE are not on at the same time. If your ISP provides IPv6, you can set your router up for IPv6, and you won't have this problem.

When you are on Wi-Fi with Airplane mode enabled it also makes the device incapable of making and receiving calls and text messages. This is not something I would suggest. If you see my response that has been marked correct by the OP it is the one that makes the most sense until a fix is released.

It's not a bug if the customer chose the wrong setting from the get go.

I don't use the super ugly LG phone dialer, I use my Google Voice number with the Hangouts dialer for all my calls. So, yes, I can still get calls.

It technically is a bug. I never had to change this setting on KK and my notifications worked fine. It is a pain in the you know what waiting for the Wi-Fi to kick back on after unlocking the screen. Oh...you can't stream music such ad Pandora or SiriusXM with the screen off while this setting is changed because the Wi-Fi will turn off and switch to cellular data. So I would call this a bug.

I can stream music. I'm listening to a station on TuneIn Radio as i type this. I even pressed the `power/lock key´ before coming here. I waited and waited and i didn't lose the wifi connection. I then pressed the power/lock key again. Which i have to do because i have a security pin, i still didn't get knocked off of wifi. Let alone get switched to mobile network and/or cellular data.
