Why is my lens cover scratched?

Has anyone had any issues with the lens cover scratching?  I have a new G3 that I've used without a case, as I do all phones, and a glass screen protector.  I have never had keys in my pocket it is the only thing ever in my left front pocket.  That being said, I have used it for about 20 days and didn't notice the issue till I went to take Christmas pictures.  All the lights had halo's around them and the shots were washed out and dull.  Checked the lens and there are tons of small scratches all over it, I tried to clean it with some photo wipes for camera lenses and no luck.  I see it's a pretty common problem if you google search it, anyone had any luck cleaning it up or should I return it?

20 days will be well past the buyers remorse period. I would focus on the cleaning it up option. Wish I had a good suggestion for how.
