Why is there such a huge lag (at times) when I'm typing a text message?

When typing a text message, I can type a couple characters, then my G3 goes off into never never land, probably either trying to guess what I'm going to type next, or to look up the spelling of it's guess. It will hang for a good 10 seconds or more. During that time it might pretend that it's accepting characters... or not.  It might offer a spelled word... or not.  It might display what I'm typing and then delete the first word typed while it was thinking and keep the rest of them.

Any thoughts?  Are there smart typing settings I can turn off (since autocorrect doesn't work all that well anyway)?

VTFirefly,
Let’s work together to bring your device back down to the main land. When did this keyboard lagging start? Does this happen with every text message you try to send? Also, are you using the original keyboard that was installed on the device?
