Will my VS985 (LG G3) work in Italy with 4G ?

Hi,

I'm travelling to Italy in a few days.  I'm using Verizon's LG G3 (VS985).   The specification for this phone has :

LTE band 4(1700/2100), 13(700) - VS985

But Italy seem to have only : LTE 800, LTE 1800, LTE 2600 (as stated in http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html or Network coverage in ITALY - 2G/3G/4G mobile networks ).

So, I can't use the android phone VS985 in Italy with 4G LTE ??

But somehow, websites like https://www.frequencycheck.com/carrier-compatibility/qjJOhVj/lg-g3-vs985-lte-a-lg-b2/vodafone-italy

seems to imply that at least 1 band (1800) with 4G LTE may work with VS985 ???

Any expert ?  Can you please advise ?

Kin

Hello,

Now, I'm going to Dubai and I'm doing the same exercise.

> LTE band 4(1700/2100), 13(700) - VS985

I've assumed the above ~3 frequencies (as the Verizon page lists it).  But from "www.phonemore.com/phone/lg-g3-vs985-32gb/1549", it seems to also have the "1800" MHz for 4G.  This is also supported by "www.frequencycheck.com/models/GNoeR/lg-g3-vs985-lte-a-lg-b2".

It Italy, as shown in "www.frequencycheck.com/compatibility/LjYrHZx/lg-g3-vs985-lte-a-lg-b2/italy", Italian companies such as 3 (Tre), TIM and Vodafone does have 1800+ .  As my post on 2016-6-2 said, I did see 4G LTE with Vodafone.  This was confirmed.

After all, there is just this 1800+ hidden frequency for VS985 (LG G3 for Verizon) that is useless in US but may be useful outside US.

Thanks.  I've used this already when I asked my question.   Verizon seems to say that 4G is available to my device (LG G3).   But I wonder why ?!  Because the frequencies don't match.   I'm hoping that somebody may explain or somebody with experience in Italy can confirm ....

The LG G3 is GSM ready for 1g,  3G or hspa+, but not LTE in another country. LG G3 (CDMA) - Full phone specifications

That's what I thought.   I just wonder why Verizon's "International Trip Planner" would indicate that I can use 2G & 4G (but not 3G) in Italy.  Very puzzled ...

I have seen the coverage map in that "trip planner" page.   It just showed 4G in most of Italy.  Here, I show you a screenshot after I put in Italy and my device "LG G3".   All seem to show that 4G would work in Italy with my LG G3.

But my speculation is more in line with what Ann154 has said.   VS985 (Verizon LG G3) in 4G mode uses 1700/2100 MHz (band 4) and 700 MHz (band 13) but Italy companies seem to be using 800/1800/2600 MHz,

ie. different => incompatible in 4G !!

I just wonder whether the above declaration (in my screenshot) that my Verizon LG G3 would enjoy 4G in Italy.

I'd know when I get to Italy .... I was just hoping to get an inspiring answer.

For some HSPA+ is considered 4G. The radios do support HSPA+.

Thanks, Ann154 !   What you said seems to be a reasonable explanation for what I have observed Smiley Happy   I guess I'm happy enough if I can get HSPA+ in Italy !   I'll see ... I'll report after I get there .......

It seems that I do get 4G LTE in Italy (at least around Pisa).   Depending on where I go, I have seen H or 4G LTE on my LG G3 --- mainly "Vodafone IT".  I've installed "LTE Discovery" and it has shown either H+ or LTE.    So in areas with good signal, I've got LTE.   I don't know what frequency it's but I do seem to get LTE.

{ One weird thing today: On the first date of arrival, I did get a few text messages from 900080004000.  And from another phone no.   But today, when I first tried to login to this forum.   Since Verizon saw that it's from a foreign IP, it insisted on sending me a PIN before I could login.   But I've never got the PIN, even after a few trials.   At the end, I've used a VPN to login to my Lab. in US and then I can login to this forum. }
