I've had the same Fios setup for over ten years. Two+ months ago, it got super slow and some websites won't load (including Verizon's), or won't properly load consistently. I live in a 60-unit condo and Verizon has decided that it's not feasible (or worthwhile?) to wire each unit in our building with fiber optic capabilities, so I'm stuck with connecting via a phone jack. My current set up is phone jack in the wall to a D-Link DSL-6300V modem, connected via ethernet cable to an Actiontec MI424-WR router. (This router had a coaxial cable attached back to the wall, and I thought that the coaxial cable is how we got our internet, but I learned today that the coaxial cable isn't doing anything for the internet connection.) I spent many hours on the phone with Verizon over the last several months and got them to send me a new router. They sent a Gateway model Fios-G1100. It cannot connect to a regular phone jack, only a coaxial cable or ethernet. So, I tried simply replacing the old router with the new gateway (i.e., phone jack to modem to new gateway router) and got it to work. However, the connection is just as slow, and nothing has improved. Should I replace the D-link modem with something newer? Would that help with the connectivity and/or speed issues? If so, what modem would be compatible? (I am aware that the gateway acts as both a modem and router, so I shouldn't need an extra modem, but the gateway has no way to connect to a phone line.) So, what can I do? ---So frustrating. Thanks.
