Meet The Expert Guest:  Lorena Mccalister

When:  March 31, 2011 (At Noon EST and 8:00 PM EST)

Length:  2 60 minute sessions

Lorena has worked for Verizon in marketing/product management roles for Consumer and Enterprise segments for fifteen years. She is currently the product manager for the Verizon Message Center, Verizon’s new “email and more” application.  She is responsible for making sure the Verizon Message Center meets Verizon customer needs today and in the future.

How does it work?

The session (and board) will be open to receive messages (and questions) from users on March 31, 2011 at Noon Eastern for 60 minutes and at 8:00 PM Eastern for 60 minutes.

1.  Come to this "Meet The Expert" board and post your question.

2.  Lorena will do her best to answer  as many questions as she can within the given time period. She will come back to answer "leftover" questions after the session has been completed.

3.  Be sure to "subscribe" (Under Board Options) to receive email notifications if you have to "step away" from the session.  You can also subscribe to any specific threads or topics you are interested in.

Why should I come to the "Meet The Expert" session?

The main focus of this "Meet The Expert" session is to learn more about the Verizon Message Center.

You should also attend if:

  • You want to make sure you are getting the most out of your Verizon email?
  • You have specific email issues that you have been trying to troubleshoot?
  • You enjoy the chance to talk to strategic thinkers behind the innovation?

We are looking forward to having you discuss Verizon Message Center with us!  Thank you for your participation.

Will Verizon ever offer IMAP mail?  With folks accesing email from multiple devices using POP doesn't scale with with multiple devices.

If this will happen, when?

Thanks, Jim

Thank you for your interest and participation! We are considering IMAP mail vis a vis a whole host of other enhancements. We will be sure to notify the VZ Community when we make our decision.

Now that 7232 boxes and eSata are rolling out, the problem of lost material when a box dies is going to create a real problem.  What is VZ doing about transferring eSata drives to replacement boxes in same account?

Thank you for your participation in this session. I will need to take this question to our Network Infrastructure experts. Please expect to see a post on this issue in the next few days. Thank you, again.

One of the principle contributors to computer based identity theft is the hacking of one's email account and password.   The principle path for this compromise of credentials is well know to be the unencrypted exchange of credentials for POP/IMAP (and even many webmail applications) on public networks (such as the local coffee shop).

Does Verizon have plans to move to SSL-based POP / IMAP / SMTP message exchange to protect these credentials when users access their Verizon mailbox while traveling?

Answer:

Lasagna, thank you for your great question!

The login portion of webmail is encrypted. We support encrypted password on POP and SMTP. We will offer POP SSL and SMTP SSL later this year (this would encrypt the entire transaction start to finish) but it's not currently available.

Thank you again!

I think that a " Meet the Experts"  on FiOS TV (eSATA..DVR) topics are a Great idea .

I would def input all my thoughts that  I think would make FiOS tv even better than it is now ( and that's hard to do, lol )  IMHO

One example i have : Full IPTV integration so that FiOS TV subscribers can view , access , and watch ALL the channels that they are subscribed to via an iPAD ... ( even VOD content , if that is possible as well )

I would love to participate in that  " Meet the Experts"  discussion.

Thank You
