I spent over an hour chatting with two agent about adding a line to my plan. Both agents told me I couldn’t add a line to my plan since it was no longer available. The new line had to go on a new plan on its own. My current plan is grandfathered. So I made an appointment to visit a store. During that visit I was told that I could have up to ten lines on my current plan.  All we had to do was port it over and accept it.  I was also told that agents online are supposed to tell you that to force you to a new more expensive plan. 
Moral of story go into the store for truth.
