went to Verizon store to open a new account never had Verizon or mobile phone service provider before so to keep bill cheap elected for free phone and looked at account today and just noticed that it says I owe for device when do was told it was free

In a situation where you take advantage of an offer that discounts the phone for free, you will also see a credit that offsets the cost of the phone charge. Is this your first bill since you purchased your phone? Did you have to trade in a phone in order to get your phone for free?
