To begin: I am a 21-year Verizon customer. This past September I upgraded two of the phones on my account in a local Verizon store. At the time Verizon was promoting the Home Internet. (Signs up all over the store.). For every new Home Internet, there was a $200 gift card. I made the purchase and installed the home internet that night and it has worked since then. (At the store the sales rep. communicated that the service would need to be in place for 60 days before the rebate would be processed. That seemed reasonable so that people didn't take the gift card, return the device and cancel the service.)
I didn't get any emails so on Oct 30th, I contacted Verizon via chat and after an hour or so, the chat representative submitted the rebate gift card submission for me. I got the confirmation email and thought all was well.
Today I got a notification that my submission zip code was INVALID. (It is the same zip code on my account for 21 years.) So after an hour or so with no resolution or explanation, I ended the chat and decided to call.
I spoke with a lady and told her the information so she could open the account see the purchase date, see the submission date and her response was that my zip code was not ever an eligible zip code for the $200 gift card. So I looked up the Verizon store zip code and the customer service representative said that zip code was not valid for this promotion. I stated that the store was filled with signage about the $200 gift card with new Home internet.
The representative said the $200 gift card was never available for my zip code nor for the stores zip code. I stated that is the clearest Bait & Switch I have ever experianced. No sales person ever told me "This promotion doesn't work in our area". I even had a conversation with them about how to fill out the rebate information.
The representative said she would see what is available in my zip code. (I said will it be possible that it is much less then the $200 listed.) Wow - now it is $100 that is available in our area. Why not advertize in all of USA's stores for promotions that can only be fulfilled in Europe?
VERY upset by the handling of this by Verizon.
