I just completed the KitKat update on an Ellipsis 7 tablet that's connected to Verizon's network, but now I'm only getting a blank screen after the welcome screen displays. Fyi: the first part of this update went smoothly. Can anyone can help me resolve this issue? I really like this tablet and use it everyday.

UPDATE: I removed my 16 GB micro SD card (not the original 8 GB SIM card) and now I get the "powered by Android" message after the "Welcome" screen, but that's it.

I regret to hear of the difficulites you are experiencing with your device after the recent software update compuoso. Let's get your device back up and running. Have you tried to plug the tablet to the charger? After you get the Welcome screen, does the tablet power off or is it on but the screen will not light up?
Thank You,

It should be noted that there seems to be no way to advance beyond the "welcome" or "powered by android" screen. I even tried to do so after the battery died and got nowhere. Plugging it into the charger doesn't work, either; in fact, the whole problem originally occurred while it was on the charger!

Let's bring back the full power of your tablet, compuoso! If the device will not complete the boot process please try starting in Safe Mode. Here is a link with instruction for the Ellipsis 7: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-88245/. If this is unsuccessful as it does not get to the "Verizon Wireless" screen please start the process for a factory reset through the alternate method listed at: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-88206/
Please keep me updated on the status as I would love to help ensure this is resolved!
Thank you,

I contacted Verizon support and a couple of techs attempted to walk me through alternate boot methods. However, as bassclarinetl2 noted, "pressing the power button to turn the device off results in the device powering up by itself and both 'safe mode' and 'factory reset' are inaccessible via their button combinations." Therefore, I'm sending my tablet in to be repaired or replaced under warranty. Depending on how long you've had your Ellipsis 7 tablet, you may be able to do the same.
Incidentally, I have another (seemingly) identical Ellipsis 7 tablet and was able to successfully install the KitKat upgrade on this second tablet, which I'm using now. The sooner Verizon determines why the upgrade worked on one tablet and not the other, the better.

Same issue in our house, 2 ellipsis 7 tablets purchased at the same time. Update bricked one tablet, no problems whatsoever with the other one. Tech support won't admit there is a problem with the upgrade, tried to blame the issue on overcharging because I said I charged the tablet for 24 hours to try to resolve it. Now sending me a box to send it for repairs. Bull.

My husband and I both have this tablet, his prompted him to install and up date soft wear, so naturally he did. After software completed and the device turned back on all he could use was voice command. He skipped all the bs n called Verizon directly, which resulted in a factory reset, this displeased me to say THE VERY LEAST, we lost pictures of new baby videos etc. My upper left notification screen has the update downloading button flashing as if it's waiting for me to download software up date. It will prompt me every day to do this I keep replying later it asks me to set a time,I have to or else it won't close out. I dont want this KitKat software and I want the notifications to stop. What can we do to reject the update request PERMINATLY?? WITHOUT A FACTORY RESET PLEASSSSSEE.

I have the same issue described above, and have attempted both methods to restore to factory defaults. The problem is, I do not get the Verizon splash screen after the "Powered by Android" displays, so I cannot seem to access safe mode. Hoping that this thread is still being monitored by Verizon and they can provide additional details/suggestions on how to resolve this.

I too am having a similar issue. The tablet will display the welcome screen, followed by a quick "powered by android" and then the screen is blank but the backlight is on. Pressing the power button to turn the device off results in the device powering up by itself and both "safe mode" and "factory reset" are inaccessable via their button combinations.

I'm having the same issue. Backlight comes on after "powered by android" & then that's it. I'm also having trouble turning the tablet on & off.

I am also having a similar problem - the tablet will not move beyond the "welcome" screen. Holding down the power button, or the power button and volume down button in combination, simply causes the screen to go black, and then the "welcome" pops back up and freezes there.

Same thing here. Upgraded now blank screen after the powered by android goes away. We're waiting Verizon! Did you not test this upgrade before the ota push?? I can't even get to any of the boot options hard reset or safe mode. It stops booting after the powered by android screen. Device can't be turned off it simply turns it's self back on.

Just had the exact same issue. I have used every possible method in an attempt to get the boot process completed. Even letting the battery drain completely and then plugging in the charger, all to no avail. My tablet is covered under warranty still so I have to send it in and hope they can fix the issue!
I did see in a separate post, this seems to affect certain software versions:
New Ellipsis 7 Experience with KitKat Software Update
If the current SW Version on your Ellipsis 7 tablet is:
MV7A_31D16_422 OR
MV7A_31D18_422 OR
MV7A_31D26_422
Please call our Customer Support at 1 (800) 837-4966, and they will support you through the update process. You will be required to ship your device for this software enhancement.

I am having to send mine in as well, for warranty repair or replacement. It seems if you are affected by this, it is the only option.

I ran the update on ours (version MV7B_31D41_422Y) and it was successful. That supports the previous comment about software versions.

Should we as the consumer be accepting this as our only option? I don't think so. Perhaps a Verizon official would like to comment on this, but it seems to me if a OTA update that was developed by Verizon and pushed to our devices by Verizon was not properly vetted against all software versions and is making devices non-functional, they should be considering this a RECALL situation and providing the option to exchange for a working model IN-STORE and handling the warranty shipping process internally rather than offloading that lost time using the device on their customer.
I did get a separate option from the local store to buy an ADDITONAL "free" device, but since I really don't have a need for another line, it seems more like I was being asked to purchase additional unnecessary services to get a replacement device, which, by the way, does not seem to be able to be updated to KitKat, as it is not finding any updates available.

I'm in the same boat. Installed the KitKat update after delaying a few days, now the screen gets stuck at 'Welcome' for ever. Sometimes I can 'power off' and stays off a little bit longer than usual, but normally it bounces right back on. All the advice from Verizon is impossible for me--Hard Reset, Safe Mode--since it never gets past the Welcome Screen.
My computer responds with a sound when I plug in the tablet via USB, but I get no access to anything.
Any progress, anyone?

Have you tried a hard reboot? I have had this problem on other smart devices and if you remove the battery and restart it usually fixes the problem.

Batteries in the Ellipsis are not removable. letting the battery die to shut it down and then recharging does no good on the ones the update affected because they then won't turn back on.
since they hung up on the welcome screen, aND were completely unresponsive there was no way to get the hard reboot menu to come up. The techs at the store couldn't get mine too either so it wasn't just me.
FYI to those waiting on the box to send it in for repair - took my box a week to arrive.
