As the title states, when running a speedtest from a computer connected to our 4g router from Verizon, I download at only 1mbps. This seemed low so I tried running it on my phone, which is on the same plan. I downloaded at 20mbps. I tried unplugging the router from the wall and battery and letting it sit for a minute before powering up again. That didn't help at all. Does anyone have any ideas on what could cause this? Thanks.

dohlfhauldhagen,
That's a big difference! We want to make sure you get world class speeds at all times. There are a lot of possible reasons the signal can vary but usually we wouldn't see that big of a difference? Are these the normal speeds you see? Does restarting the device help at all?

Thank you for the responses.
First off, as I said, I tried powering down and removing the battery with no luck. These speeds are normal and have been this way ever since we got the router a couple of months ago. I just didn't think to test it against my phone until now. I did try to connect my PC directly to the router as well, and I disconnected all wifi devices. Same story. My phone is still beating it tenfold.

Sounds more like the 4G router is connected to 3G where 1-3 Mbps is expected.
When speedtesting it is important to give yourself as clear of a picture to the internet performance as you can. The phone has a perfect scenario already but the 4G LTE router has to relay the connection at least once before it can reach a personal machine.
Try Ethernet cable connecting to the 4G LTE router when speed testing (I believe they have Ethernet cable ports). This will help you rule out misc wireless problems with WiFi in your home such as distance and interference. If the problem persists over an Ethernet cable then its time to contact VZW for assistance on swapping or adjusting the 4G LTE router. You should already have confirmation that the signal in your home is adequate as suggested by your phone results. That would leave a fault in the 4G LTE router as the only remaining factor to evaluate.

Please login to the router at http://192.168.1.1 and navigate to About > Diagnostics. Copy and Paste the information listed between “4G LTE Network” and “Field Test”, and post it here.

Have you RESET the router?
I’ve never seen both “Available”, or with signal levels at the same time.
According to the User Guide, “Networks” is NOT part of Advanced. There appears to be no way to force 4G LTE Only, like there is with Novatel Jetpacks.
If reset doesn’t work I’d call Customer Service (800) 922-0204 and complain.

Just tried a factory reset, and still no dice. Looks like we'll be taking it back to the Verizon store! Thanks for the help!

We don't want you to have to make a trip to the store unless absolutely needed. After you performed the factory reset did you allow the device to reconfigure to the network? What were the status’ of the led lights? Please keep us posted

Yes we did. It reconnected to 4g, and all of the settings were reset. I connected my PC to the reset router and ran a speedtest, only to have it dl at 1mbps about. I ran it on my phone and got 12mbps+.
I tested the router on multiple computers and phones. Same deal every time. It is geting decent signal, 3-4 bars for data consistently. I think the router is definitely malfunctioning.

Thanks for trying to reset the router. Could you provide the model number of the 4G router you are using? That way we can find more troubleshooting steps specific to this device.

I would recommend you change the MTU to 1428 this should fix the download issue, however if it doesn't look into getting a Max BR1 Router instead. It is a multi carrier router and will work on any provider in Canada, US, Mexico and South America
