Is verizon mifi faster than standard phone hotspot connections?

I'm an avid gamer and I need a fast, solid connection. My phone (S7 edge) is decent but if like something that has better, more stable connection. Packet loss seems to be an issue, as is ping. Does the jetpack or Mifi that verizon offers have any better performance than my s7 edge does for hotspot capabilities?

Torchmanz,

That's a great question! I can certainly help with verifying this for you. Unfortunately, our current hotspot devices do not have an ethernet connection. Here's a link to our current hotspot devices available http://vz.to/2su09Dg Does this help?

Why don't you get a landline internet connection?

I live in a condo/hotel that doesn't offer it. Wi-Fi only.

Let me guess. They chose to live in an area without it and now expect mobile data to be replacement for wired home broadband.

You make it sound like op is someone who bought beach front property and then complains about erosion. I live in a rural area in Georgia. Internet options from 3 providers with a top speed of 18mps. Should I move 50 miles away (further from my job) to the nearest area with higher speeds?

That's an awesome question Torchmanz. We want you to have the best option. Our Jetpack/Mifi devices would be the same as your S7 Edge. Your plan may limit your jetpack or hotspot speeds after you hit a certain threshold.

Does verizon offer any hotspot devices that have a direct Ethernet

connection? For instance, to plug in a device that doesn't have Wi-Fi but

needs internet connectivity.

Verizon LTE Internet and Home Phone | Verizon Wireless

Or purchase a USB modem and connect it to a compatible router.

Cool. I didn't know that existed. Better than my advice. Would this be a $20 extra on a Beyond/Go unlimited instead of another line charge?

It is a separate line so whatever the line access fee is for the plan you have. I would actually recommend a tiered data only plan for either option since the OP wants to use it for gaming. The 15 GB hotspot usage on the Beyond Unlimited plan would be blown through in a day or two for a gamer.

The LTE Internet device also has the bonus of getting a public IP address which might also be needed for gaming systems.

except tiered data would be way more expensive and either have overages or throttled to 128 kbps max once the tired limit is reached, which is useless. At least on Beyond it would be 600 kbps would suck for downloading a game but could work for playing in many cases.

At nay rate one would hope that Verizon would eventually raise both the cap and the throttle speed. I mean it's been a year since they re-introduced unlimited. One thing I'll give t-mobile credit for it they raised their level every few months as the made network improvements. What's Verizon's excuse?

I was referring to the data only plan designed specifically for hotspots and internet devices. The user would pay for their usage including overages. Data Only Plan | Verizon Wireless

You could use a router and turn it into an access point and plug the ethernet from the router to your device.
