Trying to update Ellipsis Jetpack.

  Connected to computer and have a strong wifi signal, but says device not found.  Any advice appreciated.

If you are tethered via USB to the Jetpack then the WiFi connection to the same PC will not work.  You have to choose one or the other.

Normally when someone cannot connect to the Jetpack it is due to wireless profile issues and incorrect or corrupt credentials on that machine.  Start by forgetting/removing/deleting the wireless profile you setup on this machine for the Jetpack and try again.
