This is a non issue. If you read the link you provided you would see that Verizon Wireless has already patched/fixed the issue. Further that link indicates those devices that will not update with the patch/fix will be deactivated and not allowed to access the Verizon Wireless network.

Further if one reads the link they'll see that in order to access the vulnerability discussed in that link one would need PHYSICAL access to the Network Extender in order to attach the custom HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the Network Extender.

Solution

Verizon has updated the software for the Wireless Network Extender to lock down the boot process to prevent exploitation. The debug port of the device has also been disabled. CAVE authentication for the device has been enabled as of March 2013. These updates have been pushed out to affected devices. Devices that will not update will be deactivated and not allowed access to the Verizon wireless network.
