Why is the Verizon ellipsis 8 not compatible with verizons messaging app

Love to understand why the Verizon texting app is not compatible with the ellipsis 8 ? I bought this Tablet to replace my old Samsung Galaxy tablet that died from over use. I was told this tablet was a very comparable it is not. Texting has to be linked to a smart phone (another purchase) ellipsis has it own number and should support it own texting

What up with this??  As I see it just another marketing ploy

The original Galaxy Tab tablet had text messaging native to the device's line of service number. All later tablets had this functionality removed.  Now you are required to use a third party application and a separate number.

Well, I know you can at leaset message via wifi/data messengers like Hangouts, Facebook, and other apps like that.  I would think that to send text like a phone does that you would have to have a cellular signal.  Now, I know the Verizon Message app can send/receive on wifi if there is no data, but I thought it had to be linked to a cellular phone number.

The ellipsis 8 has its own number and should be able to but according to Verizon Wireless Tech service that the ellipsis 8 tablet has been locked out from texting and you have to use another bogus app. So in reality what I had for three years is not available to me even though I am paying in part for it an was used extensively no I have business and personal all massed together.

Also for everyone if you have a tablet bought from Verizon wireless and you have a data plan and contract that device has a phone number

No tablet that Verizon supports has texting from it alone. That's why its a tablet and not a phone.

How long have you had the tablet and the issue?  I would definitely have Verizon compare the 2 tablets and look into why the previous had the capability and this one either doesn't or isn't provisioned correctly.  Just a thought,  I'm sure this tablet uses a SIM card and perhaps it isn't activated correctly in its link to your account.

You go find a tablet and you tell me which one it is. I'll lay $1000 down saying you cannot use the tablets number to text anyone ever.

even the Verizon wireless tech was surprised that the ellipsis 8 was disabled from texting. Guess what I want is why did i get lied to when I was willing to go shell out money for another Samsung tablet but was pushed in to this piece of crap then when I no longer had the ability to change suddenly no one could care

OK where's my 1000 bucks lol

You said you used Messaging on the tablet with the number on your PHONE.  And that's correct - the tablet sends and receives texts through your PHONE line, not the tablet line.

The Messaging app on the tablet is synced with a phone line account.  Yes, the tablet does have a phone number attached, but your $10 a month gets you a DATA connection, not a phone connection or a texting connection, unless it's through the Messages+ app.

OK Everyone what I was asking through all my text was correct

Three years ago with a Verizon tablet you had direct texting with the number assigned to the tablet..

Now with new tablets that is impossible I know that (now Dec 1). I was lied to by Verizon wireless when I upgraded to a new tablet this ellipsis 8 is a piece of crap compared to what I had stated in the texts above.

Verizon Messages FAQs | Verizon Wireless

Can I still get messages through Verizon Messages on my tablet if I don t have an Android smartphone?

Yes, as an Integrated Messaging subscriber, you can send and receive messages on your Android tablet, iPhone , iPod touch , iPad , Windows PC desktop or Mac desktop.

  1. Subscribe to Integrated Messaging on the web by signing in to My Verizon from the My Messaging page and clicking "Go to Web App."

  2. Download the app from the app store on your tablet or from the Verizon Messages Overview page for PC and Mac desktop devices.

  3. Read and accept the Terms & Conditions.

  4. Choose a nickname for the tablet.

  5. Enter your phone number and tap Send me a text.

  6. You'll receive a text message on your phone with a security code. Enter on the tablet to add the tablet to your account.

The part about getting the text to a phone for security reasons is the only thing I'm not sure about in your situation, but surely you have a phone and can get a text.  Hope this helps.  Is the tablet added to the account for messaging?

How do I add a tablet to my Verizon Messages account?

To add a tablet to your account:

  1. Download Verizon Messages from the app store on your tablet.
  2. Read the Terms & Conditions.
  3. Tap Get Started.
  4. Enter a nickname for the tablet.
  5. Enter your Verizon Wireless mobile phone number.
  6. Tap Send me a text.
  7. You'll receive a text message on your phone with a security code. Enter the code on the tablet to add the tablet to your account.

You've successfully added a tablet to your account.

Guess where I am going is the one on had did support texting

I specifically asked for a replacement with all the exactly identical features and was lied to just long enough so I was locked into this piece of crap

That's where I am going with this! I now know and have known for least a month this tablet can not use the number it was assigned for texting.

You were definitely being pushed into the currently promoted Verizon device.  They tried to get my mother, in front of me, to buy a $300 Galaxy S5 instead of my recommended LG G2 which was free.  I hope this gets resolved quickly for you.
