Military discount

Let me begin by offering that a military discount is NEVER expected,  and anything to minimize a monthly bill is GREATLY appreciated.    When I went in person to the Verizon store to sign up for the Home internet 5g, I was VERY CLEARLY informed by the store manager that we would be receiving $10 off monthly with the military discount.  After 4 months and too many phone calls with customer service, we were most recently informed that it is only applied to NEW phone lines.  This is not what was explained when we subscribed and we find this very disappointing.  $10 is not that big a deal but if you are advertising the discount, and your store representatives are "selling it" it seems only reasonable to believe you will actually receive it.  Every time I called to address this, the representative spent more time trying to upsell me more Verizon services than actually addressing my concern.  Long story short, Verizon doesn't intend to actually honor the advertised military discount and we are done trying to convince them.   No hard feelings and like I mentioned- never expected but greatly appreciated when offered.

If you are getting some other discount such as autopay or bundle discount and those are better, do not try to switch over to the military discount because discounts are not "stackable" - and from what I've read in other threads, people get stuck with the smallest of whatever discount there is by default if they try to change things.  For whatever reason, there doesn't seem a way to "go back" either.

Verizon employees being unaware that discounts cannot be combined is more common than you'd think, sadly.  Why this is, don't want to speculate on it publicly.

Sadly, that is not the case here.  I refused to sign up for the autopay discount because Verizon billing has been so poor that we didn't want to give them access to our bank accounts.  They are simply refusing to honor the military discount unless I switch over my phone line or start a new line.  Again, not what I was told when I subscribed to the home internet. (new line.)

Thank you for your service and sacrifice Docjarhead1. I want to shed light on the Military discount. This is available for you and then if you would like to save more, the Military Discount can be stacked with the Autopay Discount. When you have a Verizon Visa Card, this also qualifies, just like the direct debit from the bank account, for the autopay and paperless discount.  If you change your mind, check out https://www.verizon.com/military/.

Hi Deb and thanks for responding.    Apparently we are both incorrect.  I have asked to speak with supervisors, spent hours on the phone and online trying to get to the bottom of this and in every instance the final response is the same.  I am am told it will ONLY APPLY IF I ADD A NEW PHONE LINE which we have no need for,  and there is "NOTHING THEY CAN DO" to override.  I would have assumed that starting a new service with Verizon (technically a "new line") would have sufficed but Verizon has assured me that is not the case.   This discrepancy could be solve quickly  simply by clarifying with your staff and in your marketing material that THE MILITARY DISCOUNT ONLY APPLIES TO NEW PHONE SERVICE.  Why Verizon would chose to limit the discount in that fashion seems unclear.  Will be switching our 5G for home internet to T-mobile this week as they also offer a military discount (an honor their word.)

Docjarhead1, my apologies for any misinformation as the last thing we want to see happen is you leaving us. We know how important it is to save money on the billing. We can always check to see what your options are. Please let us know.

Good Afternoon Natasha.    The information piece seems fairly clear.  Verizon advertises a military discount.  After that, everything gets a little fuzzy.  I have served 18 years, and my service was verified with Verizon.   Convincing Verizon to actually honor the discount in return for signing up for new service (home internet 5G,) seems to be the stumbling block.  I have no idea at this point how to successfully receive the discount as every customer service rep and manager I have spoken with (too many now) seem equally confused.

@Docjarhead1, at this point, I don't think Verizon will give you the military discount because you are not a "new" customer and/or you must have a new mobile line bundled with the home internet service which you do not have.  While this is extremely frustrating, it's nothing new with the industry in general.  My ISP is the exact same way with running "sign up specials" all the time, yet this customer of 24 years never gets a price break ever.  I'd switch, but said ISP has great service and I pull hundreds of gigs of data every month, so can't use fixed wireless which is the only way to go cheaper.

If fixed wireless home internet does the job for you and you do not mind being deprioritized to cell phone traffic...the Pink Logo Place may work for you and give you a discount since you'd be a new customer.  It is definitely in their fine print that home internet customers have lower priority on the towers, so your data is going to be slower than the phone customers.  But if you have a need for consistent speed at home, use a cable or fiber ISP.  There's a reason why it costs more. 😉
