4G for mac

Does anyone have any idea when Verizon 4g will be supporting mac OS?  Or does anyone know how to get connected with 4g using a mac?

Currently, VZ Access manager for 4G modems does not support Mac OS.  The place to keep checking is www.vzam.net this is the software upgrade page for VZ Access manager.  If I see it become available, I'll let you know.

Thanks, I will keep checking VZAM.  Hopefully it will come soon, I had been watching the 4g progress all summer and when I found out the exact date of the release I was ready to order one, then I found out the lack of mac support, bummer.

I'm waiting for the same thing. I went to the store yesterday and bought the new LG card. I talked to the salesperson all during the transaction about the fact that I use Mac's. He told me all about the recent training they did with regard to the new 4G service. I got home and tried to get online and couldn't. I looked online (using my iPad 3G) and immediately started seeing reviews that mentioned that Mac's aren't supported yet. I called the store back and the salesman called tech support and called me back. He told me they told him to check the main Verizon wireless site everyday for a message about the new Mac "driver". In the meantime, he re-activated my MiFi so that I can continue to stay online. Very inconvenient. Seems like something that should have been worked out ahead of the launch . Mac's account for a much larger percent of the market than they used to.

Will I really need to use the Verizon software?

Since the only 4G devices available right now are USB sticks, yes you will need to use the VZ Access manager software to connect to the internet.

End of the month, Q1 '2011 at the latest for the drivers. If you have a dual-boot Mac machine you can use Windows and then install the MAC drivers when the drivers come out on www.vzam.net soon.

I have been waiting for over one year for Verizon to support Mac with there wifi hot spots offered by Boingo. Macs can access this service from Boingo for $9.95 per month. AT&T and T-Mobile wifi hot spots support Macs. I have written Verizon several times in the past year, and have gotten the same response, they are working on it. Now we have the same problem with 4G. Mac owners are now paying $20.00 a month for services they cannot use because Verizon discriminates against Mac. Is it time for Mac users to file a class action suit against Verizon. Unfortunately it appears this is the only way Mac owners will be able to resolve this problem, Verizon listens to there pocket book before there customers!.

First off, the MIFI does support MAC.  Secondly, please let me know the basis of your suit.  Show me the law that says Verizon is required or obligated to provide service to MAC.  Verizon wireless whether you like it or not is not a utility company and is not reguated as one.  Wireless service is not treated the same as electric, heat, gas, water etc.  You have no claim since Verizon has no obligation.  It is that simple. 

Incidentally, the hold up on MAC support for 4G is on the Apple side of the equation, not the Verizon side (just like it was for the MIFI device)

Over one year ago they added WIFI hotspots for there present customers which include approximately 10% Mac owners. Therefore they are obligated to provide the service to there entire customer base. In America, it has been quite sometime that the minority has had to sit in the back of the bus.

Use of the Wi-FI hotspots is an additional benefit of having the mobile broadband product.  Verizon isn't under ANY obligation to support ANY device unless they see fit to do so.  Your bus comparison is both meaningless and ludicrous.  Are you suggesting that Verizon is violating your civil rights but not providing service to your MAC?  Did you even read the fact that support issues for your MAC are not necessarily Verizon's fault?  Where could you possibly obtain the belief that Verizon is REQUIRED to support YOUR device??

I think we can all agree that in 18 months, Verizon could have produced the software that would have enabled Mac users to access there WIFI. Therefore is this Bait and Switch on Verizon's part , by telling Mac owners that they are working on it when they are actually not ?. What about having a operating system Bill of Rights, that simply requirers internet providers to provide the same services to all the operating systems, Windows, Mac, Linux, and the new Chrome OS, allowing the consumer decide which operating system they want to use, instead of it being dictated by the internet provider. ( 4G & WIFI, Windows Only).

We the consumer have to be vigilant with large companies like Verizon, remembering the lessons we have learned with the current recession. Remember World Com. What about the recent  Twenty One Million dollar court settlement against Verizon for over charging its customers. Now we are getting the same response from Verizon for 4G for Mac. We the consumer need to make our voices heard !!.

Manually connecting to 4G with a Mac overwrites data on your SIM card, making it not compatible with VZAccess Manager for Windows so if you ever want to use it on a Windows computer you'll get a WMC604 error, so I wouldn't recommend doing this right now.

i uninstalled and installed vzam in windows/fusion and that got rid of my 604 error.  don't know if i've tried connecting since then with osx though.

For customers who followed these instructions and have disabled their modem’s ability to connect to the Internet on a Windows PC, here are steps to restore your modem to the correct default values to ensure compatibility with the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network.

1. Connect your modem to a Windows PC with VZ Access Manager installed for your modem
2. Launch VZ Access Manager
3. Press CTRL+T to bring up a terminal window
4. At the terminal prompt, type: at+cgdcon? and hit enter
5. No further action is required if you see +CGDCONT: 1,”IPV6”,”vzwims”,”0.0.0.0”,0,0
   1. If you are unable to connect using your 4G LTE modem, contact Verizon Wireless for assistance.
   2. If you see +CGDCONT: 1,”IP”,vzwinternet”,”0.0.0.0”,0,0 follow the following steps to restore your modem to default values:
      1. Type: at+cgdcont=1,“IPV6”,”vzwims” (NOTE: This is case-sensitive and there are no spaces.) and hit enter
      2. Close the terminal window
      3. You should now be able to connect to the Internet on Windows OS with VZ Access Manager

Apple customers will no longer be a small minority that you can ignore. FCC Net Neutrality for wired internet customers, refers to all operating systems should be treated equally. I am sure debate will follow this issue, however, why not go ahead and make WIFI hot spots available to your Mac customers to avoid a legal debate. AT&T Apple customers presently have complete access to there WIFI Hotspots. Imagine what a commercial would look like. FACETIME, AT&T VS VERIZON. Presently AT&T WIFI Hotspots supports all Apple products, Verizon WIFI Hotspots does not support any Apple Products. Verizon wake up.

What is your inside source to information that tells you the Iphone is coming to Verizon?  You do realize that hasn't been confirmed, right?  Or are you banking your hopes on the WSJ article that makes that claim?  You also realize that the rumor of a Verizon Iphone has run rampant for the last 4 YEARS!!  As far as a Verizon Iphone goes, I would think the smart money is on waiting until one is actually for sale before pondering what support it would receive.

Hi all, you don't need vzaccess manager to connect your device to mac.  You can connect the device directly through network preferences.

Plug in device, go to network preferences (a box telling you there is no profile for the device should appear, click network preferences)

If its not already selected, select the device from the left (you should see Pantech ULM290), and apply the following settings:

General Device Settings-

Phone Number: PhoneNumber

Account name: PhoneNumber@vzw4g.com

Password: vzw

Advanced Settings-

Carrier: Generic

Model: GPRS (GSM/3G)

APN: vzwinternet

CID: 1

Click OK, then connect and enjoy.

When I try to use it with the Mac after following the setup, I get a "no phone service detected., Check your phone line and try reconnecting." error.

I am able to use it fine from Windows.  I am not in a 4G area at the moment though.  Does your setup allow fallback to 3G?

I was able to get mine working by activating it on a windows machine, then inserting it into my MacBook Pro. I installed the VZAccess software, rebooted, plugged out the card and put it in again.

The VZAccess software popped up and asked me to activate the device, I put in 0000000000 as the phone number, and presto!! Up it came.

I haven't got 4G coverage here so I don't know if that is working, but it certainly connects over one of the networks.

Turned out that my "real" problem was that they had sent me out the wrong card. I had a 3g account and device as opposed to a 4g. Was just an honest mistake on the part of the seller (simple misunderstanding).

Having received the correct card I was able to connect 1st time using the instructions in the other posts (i.e. the card is recognized as a network card natively, just need to add the vzw settings in the network preferences window).

This works great. The only thing I had to change though was the phone number. The phone number for me had to be #777.
