May not be correct, depending on your phone make/model. The 5G network is built into the 4G network. A 5G phone will be able to take advantage of the 5G signal. See this discussion:

Ask your neighbor to show you exactly where they heard this about 5g. Most likely they heard about 3g shutting down by the end of the year on carriers. That means there will only be 4g and 5g but you won't be forced to buy a new phone with 4g and 5g, your 4g phone will be fine. I just bought a new expensive phone with 4g only. Really your neighbor should have backed his statement up with facts to prove it but sadly most people don't.
