Calls go straight to voicemail with no 'missed call' notification!

I've been noticing, intermittently, that sometimes incoming calls will go straight to voicemail. And sometimes, I don't get a vm notification for a while (anywhere from 20 minutes to a day). Today, I missed a phone interview because of this. Also, my phone still doesn't show a 'missed call,' though it did tell me that I had a vm. This is getting frustrating. Please advise. I really don't want to change carriers, but my tolerance for this is growing thin. Thank you.

Fyi - I have a Revere flip phone. And no - I do NOT want to be strong-armed into a smart phone.

I can't say why you are not getting a VM notification for some time, BUT if for whatever reason you phone does not have service at the same time you are receiving a call, the call would go directly to VM. Additionally, if the call goes directly to VM for the reason you didn't have service at that moment, your phone would ALSO not show as having had a missed call. A missed call notification is only activated when your phone actually rings and you do not answer. If your phone is turned off or doesn't have service when a call is received, you will not get a missed call notification.

I know how important it is to stay connected, HAMILTUCKY25. I'm so sorry you're intermittently missing calls and messages. We definitely don't want you to consider leaving us.

How long have you had this phone? Has any troubleshooting been done? You mentioned not wanting to get a Smartphone, which I totally understand. However, have you considered a 4G Basic Phone? This can help tremendously.

You can view Basic phone options here: https://www.verizonwireless.com/basic-phones/

Vanessa,

Pardon my just not being able to respond. Anyway, I've had the phone for ~ 8 years (it's tough as nails) - maybe longer. I don't know. But this issue HAS to stop or I will absolutely change carriers.

Troubleshooting wise, no, this is my first time at contacting anyone. I've only recently become aware of this problem's prevalence and am trying to nip it in the bud now. Also - why would I need to change my phone at all? Why can I not keep my current phone? I do not want to change it. I just want to know why part of my own apartment (!!!) seems to sometimes be a dead zone. This is not good and I don't like it.

Thank you. I look forward to your response.

-Tom

Having a working device is a must for me too Hamiltucky25. Are other users experiencing this problem at this location? Does service improve when you step outdoors? Please note that service is not guaranteed indoors due to a variety of factors that includes building materials, congestion, line of sight of a tower, and foliage.

I don't think that this is the correct answer. Inside of my apartment, it'll work just fine five feet away from the dining table. But the dining table - where I do much of my work - is a 50/50 working zone. Not good. And I don't know who else has this problem - I live alone. It's made me resort to jacking up the ring tone volume and setting it away from where I do much of my work - a real nuisance. Any other thoughts?

"Please note that service is not guaranteed indoors"

Wanted: Cell phone Service provider who can guarantee service indoors.

We do want to set the expectation that no wireless carrier can guarantee service indoors. Numerous factors outside of carrier controls can contribute to service issues.

  • Interference
  • Foliage
  • Construction
  • Population changes
  • Cell site changes (e.g., tower relocation, antenna alignment, power adjustment, etc.)

Do you have Wi-Fi at this location? AlbertoR_VZW

You will have to change it some time in the next few years. As Verizon Wireless is planning to shutdown the CDMA network soon, anyone with a CDMA phone will need to get a new VoLTE 4G phone. You could start looking at the available basic phones that way you can have time to choose from selection.

What is the CDMA network? Or a VoLTE 4G phone, for that matter? Whatever the case, I'd stay basic. But I do prefer a flip phone - and one where I can just swap-out the batter when/if it runs out. I don't care to have something constantly on. I don't care for bells/whistles. I don't care to have the internet in my pocket.

Those are the type of cellular network. Try a web search to learn more about them. The VZW rep earlier posted a link to the current basic phones and some of them are flip phones.

It's important to us that you don't miss any more calls or voicemails. My colleague was correct. Service is not guaranteed indoors, even if it works in one room but not in another. Does it make a difference if you step outside? Does this happen everywhere or just at home? Do you have any problem making calls?

Hamiltucky25, I regret to hear that you missed a phone interview as that's the last call I myself would ever want to miss. Let's move forward and see how we can help address and resolve this service concern for you. We now offer 4G basic phones as stated earlier which will be the future of how we service our basic phone customers. I would say it's vital you upgrade to a new 4G basic phone sometime soon so you're able to get the best possible service going forward.

To start, what is the exact make and model phone you're using? What zip code do you live in so I can take a closer look at the coverage area?

My phone is an LG Revere. My zip code is 43081. Kinda suburb-ish. And I'm not 100% opposed to getting a new, dumb (ie. not 'smart') phone (though I hate paying for a phone that should work perfectly well since, electronically, there's nothing wrong with it). And what was meant by your colleague Joseph when he said that service isn't guaranteed indoors? Is the only way to guarantee indoor service is getting a landline? Because why have something that's not guaranteed indoors (where 95% of calls are made/received)? I'm confused by that statement. Also, I don't know if it 'changes' by going indoors to outdoors because I don't notice a missed call until after the fact.

If you can answer some of these questions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Regards,

Tom

Also, I have no issues with making calls or sending texts. And I think it just happens at home, but I'm not sure. Thanks!

So I 'kinda' got a response. I could see it as an email, but I don't know that I got the full email. Any discussion of my problem, please don't PM me - let's just talk about it here. I'd really like this resolved. Thank you.

Again, Verizon. I want to keep the conversation completely together and want to be able to refer to earlier parts of the conversation, so don't just randomly email me with no point of reference. Respond only on this thread. It makes reference and help greater.

HAMILTUCKY25, we certainly want everything to work for you the way that it should, especially when it comes to calls. We do want to help you in any way we can.

Typically, this is not the optimal outlet of communication for trouble shooting the issue you are experiencing, since there is a very long delay in when we get your responses. It would be best to reach out to us through Twitter or our online chat services at vzw.com/contactus

We reviewed our service for the zip code you provided, and there are no reported issues with our network there. Typically, if there was a service issue for any given area, then many customers would alert us to the issue. However, we are not seeing that is the case for your location.

Regarding our statement about indoor coverage. No provider can guarantee service indoors, since while indoors there are many factors out of our control that can affect service. Those factors are: other wireless services broadcasting inside, the building materials of the structure, fire prevention walls, reinforced walls or even foliage surrounding the home.

Also, the issue itself can be related to the phone too and not our service. If your phone is having trouble staying connected to our service, the antenna may not be working as well as it should be.

Have you tried refreshing your phone with our network by dialing *228 from the phone and choosing option 2 to update our tower listings when you here the automated menu?
