Multiple phones, date keeps changing sporadically at one location

I have a Pixel 2XL, another person has the same phone, and a third person has a Samsung S8. We are all on different Verizon accounts.

Starting about a week ago all of our phones began having this problem at random intervals and ONLY at home, no problems anywhere else.

The date will become wrong at random intervals, but so far the "wrong dates" have been roughly in sequence. The first time it happened my phone switched to May 31, 2000. Then June 1, 2007. And so on and today it's doing June 6. Whenever this happens it affects everything. Text messages go through, but its time stamped wrong. Pictures taken have the wrong date. Internet cannot be used and sometimes it won't even connect at all.

I did a full factory reset of my phone this morning and had no issues until Person3 arrived and then both our phones did the thing.

What is going on? How do we fix it?

Thank you for providing us with the screenshot. Are your devices connected to Wi-Fi when the problem begins? Do you have any issues with the calls and/or data?

I got logged out while replying so I'm gonna try this again. We were trying to figure things out with the ISP but it's not them. The date problem happens with or without WiFi. I also discovered this happens as far as 1 mile from my house but nowhere else. When this happens I can't make phone calls or send text messages or access the internet (neither wifi nor cell internet). My phone basically becomes unusable.

Also, I found that if I turn off the "use network time" setting, this prevents the issue from happening.

My guess is the clock sync software at the tower you are connected to is where the problem is originating.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Looking through many many posts, it isn't happening near just one tower

I'm sorry you are having a time change issue rasberrymoose. Let's look further into this. Did it start after a software update? Is your time set on Auto update?  JoeL_VZW

Hi All

Did anyone ever figure out what is wrong with the verizon network ?  My phone is doing the same thing .... just switches the date back 15 years or so whenever it feels like it.

Also, phone has been dropping many calls over the past 2 months, when on the mobile network ... but, fine when home on wi-fi

Paying more for verizon reliability and performance used to be worth the money ..... but, I can get dropped calls from other carriers for half the price and not have the date change every week

I also was on the phone with support .... Tier 1 and 2 ..... didn't make a difference at all

FYI ..... I live in North Jersey ....  by NYC .... not sure where others are having these issues

I live in NYC and my phone just started to do the same thing.  Dropped calls and reverts back to April 2001.  Did anyone find out what the issue was, or did Verizon figure it out?

My new Pixel4a is doing the same thing.  But, I bought it because my old Samsung Galaxy was doing this.  I have factory reset it with no 3rd party apps and contacted Google support. They were quite helpful and we trouble shot it over several days. Unfortunately, they said the  phone is fine and to call Verizon.  So I just selected the date/time option to not get the date/time from the Verizon network.  That fixes it completely.  I now just turn it on every few days to update the time when I have a strong Verizon signal.  The problem only happens when I completely lose the Verizon signal.  The phone should retain its date and time says Google, but its not and Verizon evidently has a problem with their system or phone software.  They will probably fix it but it may take a while.  April 17, 2001 is the date my phone falls back to.  I heard this may be a GPS problem related to GPS rollover and how Verizon handles rollovers.  Who Knows?  Nobody I guess.  There sure are a lot of people with this problem.  So don't feel alone. 😉

This has been happening to both my brand new phones. I bought new phones because the old phones were switching the date and time. I thought getting a new pixel 4a and Samsung s10 would fix the problem. Nope. Both new phones are switching date and time to April 2001. This is has been happening for months.

Does anyone have a fix besides turning off automatic network updates?

Verizon Support your service stinks. I have had Verizon service for 15 years in Dullles VA, and I never had any problems until this year. FIX YOUR SERVICE!

Red30, I'd be seeking out help myself if I was getting the wrong dates on my phones. That's definitely something we don't want to see happening, and I want to help figure out why this is happening. You mentioned this happening on two devices, and it's a problem that's carried over from the previous devices. Are these two phones the only ones on your account? If not, are the other people on your account having the same issue? Is anyone else who is a VZ customer having this problem in Dulles? I'm asking these questions to get a sense of what's happening.

Sorry to hear about the issues with the dropped calls and the time displayed on your phone, Kreis1. We want the best for you and we're happy to help figure this out. What's the make/model of your phone? Regarding the dropped calls, when did the issues start? Are you having issues with texting and calling too?

We are concerned to hear about the issues that you are having. This is definitely not the experience that we want for you to have, and we will be glad to look into the issue. We would like to check into the coverage in your area to see if there are any known service issues that could be causing this to happen. What is your full address? DavidR_VZW

Is there an email I can contact you further discuss this issue? I'd rather not post my full address publicly.

The VZW rep could offer to send you a private message through the Verizon Wireless Community forum, but they haven't done that yet.

We apologize for the oversight, Cupcakeaholic. We'd never want your full address in public either. What is the city or zip code and a nearby intersection of where you experience this issue? When did this issue begin happening?

The zip code is 20692 and a nearby intersection is Drayden Rd & Flat Iron Rd, which also happens to be the furthest point I've experienced the issue. The issue began in either December 2019 or January 2020. The earliest screenshot I have is from Jan 15 2020, when the date on my phone showed May 31 2000.

I'm also having this exact same issue - was anyone able to fix it? My phone will randomly change date/time - today it said it was September 8, 2000. I experience the same issues with it causing problems with text messaging & internet usage.
