Poor Coverage and Getting Worse

I have been a Verizon customer for nearly 20 years.  For most of that time, I have stuck with Verizon because the coverage was hands down the best.

Over the last 2 years, Verizon's coverage has gotten worse and worse.  I live in the populous suburbs of Chicago, not in the stix.  I work in a major government office, also in the suburbs.  Yet, if I walk from one side of my house to another, I lose any call I'm on.  My phone doesn't even ring sitting on my desk in my office.

And that's just voice coverage.  At work, 6 out of 10 times I can't get anything better than a 1x data signal, let alone LTE.  I may as well just use my phone as a paperweight during the day, and at home I have to go through my home's wi-fi to be able to do anything on it.

Verizon needs to resolve it's coverage issues quickly.  It is about that time that I take my business somewhere else.

Same here...and still happening in December all the way in Virginia!! Me and everyone I know who uses Verizon!! My son is switching his service for him and his girlfriend. Others I know have done the same. I run our business through this service and have had many emails not reach their intended destinations due to dropped service. I can't allow this much longer. We're in zip code 24149 and 24073. What says you Verizon? Why does this seem to be nation wide? And why is it still happening 4 months after this man originally posted this thread? #poorverizoncoverage #samsungnote9

tmeredith227_, that is a long time to experience service issues. I rely on my phone for many tasks, so I know how urgent a resolution is to keep you connected. Especially when you are running a business that requires important delivery of emails. We did not see any alerts for these zip codes. Are the problems indoors or outdoors? Does service improve when you travel to other areas?

I'm having the same problem on Oahu, Hawaii. Ran a google search for "why is Verizon reception so poor in Hawaii" and found this thread. I'm writing from the University of Hawaii (96822) in Honolulu Hawaii and standing outside in a wide open area with no large structures around and I only have two bars on LTE. It's been like this for months now and have to say W.T.F.???? Honolulu is the biggest city in all the Hawaiian Islands and this is all I get? Two bars on LTE? I've also been noticing my reception at home, 96707, has been dropping this last year. When I moved out there 3 years ago my Verizon reception was good and I had better reception using my phone versus my Wifi. But in this last year I've noticed the reception has fallen dramatically to the point I can't even surf the web/social media on my phone without being on WiFi. If I turn off WiFi on my phone reception drops to 1 bar LTE and it just  crawls trying to surf the web or use social media.  I have an Iphone 12 pro max so shouldn't be any issues with the phone and don't use any other devises on the Verizon network. But I am at the point of considering leaving Verizon due to the poor coverage and googling things like this is the start of that move. After reading a number of the comments here it seems Verizon coverage is suffering all over so might be time to abandon ship. This is not the service I signed up for many years ago and it's not a service I'm liking to pay for nowadays as it's definitely becoming unacceptable at this point.

We definitely always want you to have the best service possible. I'm sorry to learn about any issues, I'm here to help you. Tell me, what services are you having issues with-voice calls, text messages, data without WiFI? Is it happening everywhere you use your service, or in a specific location? Please provide us with some additional details, thanks!

I too am a 20 year customer and to add to your conversation, I finally got a CSR (customer service rep) to tell me the truth about my area (central nebraska).  I used to have full signal along a 120 mile route i have been driving for 20+ years. Now there are many dead spots, including most of an entire town with a population of 800 people I have to work in frequently.  They kept telling me it was my phone, or a particular tower being repaired. Finally I had someone who was really cool and open to chatting about it tell me what is happening and its that Verizon is dropping "partner towers" where they leased space on the tower, and only using their own towers.  I can say for sure my bill has never gone down to make up for the coverage going down, or the money they are saving dropping those towers.  There are other carriers that offer much better coverage of the rural areas I frequent, but less coverage or none for when I am on the western side of Wyoming, where my Verizon coverage is the better option.

Ahaaaa!! Thank you for posting this. It make SO much sense. I can’t understand how this is happening in the city limits of San Francisco where I live but the service decline is SO BAD it must be the case here too.

im just trying to figure out how to unlock my family’s Verizon phones so I can switch to a better provider, but I am definitely on the way out.

Verizon service has become horrifically bad in Las Vegas, and was in Seattle a couple of weeks ago and it was bad there too.  Will be switching carriers.

I had Verizon for close to 8 years and swapped to AT&T because I really liked the offers they had last Summer 2020. I wasn't happy with AT&T for the most part and missed Verizons coverage so I moved back to Verizon around October 2021 and I have constant issues with no service. My phone will show 5G or LTE (with several bars) and nothing works, cant even make an emergency call. I have done hours of troubleshooting, talked to several customer service reps and they wont even connect me with management - I want out! T-Mobile has better service than Verizon now.....Verizon is absolutely lying about their coverage, the maps are false advertising.

We truly value having you as part of the Verizon family and are concerned to hear you are coming across service issues. May we ask where this is occurring (zip code)? Is it just your line or are others seeing the same problems too?

I love the canned responses from Verizon. They don’t care and there service for calling is garbage. I also am looking to leave. They don’t try to fix anything just say it’s fine and close tickets. Then claim reopened. You check back after no communication and it was closed resolved. But service still horrible

Hi Everyone! EADR here from the other side, having switched to T Mobile in San Francisco! One hour in to my new phone carrier, and I am so happy! I walked all through my house with no call fail, no call dropped, and more bars than I have seen in the last year. Verizon is making excuses and dragging along forever, I tried everything. And I’m so happy I gave up!

Having similar issues in Los Angeles / Orange County area.  Used to have coverage every where… had outstanding signal in my house, but the last several months, service is now non-existent.  Been with Verizon for years, and looking to leave because I can’t even make a phone call or send a text anymore.

I have 1 bar at home now. Was trying to get in touch with a customer service rep, but gave up after 100+ minutes on hold......which was after spending 30 minutes with a rep that failed to "call me back in five minutes" while I reset my sim card.

I'm also in Orange County. I'm assuming this is all to do with the 5G switch over. How many people here have older phones? Is this how they try to force us into new phones and contracts?

Yes, me too.  Service has been noticeably deteriorating and I’ve been using the same phone.

I live in 30152 which is part of the Atlanta metro area. It’s really gotten worse over the last year.

I'm often down to one or no bars.  If I'm on a call I cut out.  If I'm streaming audio it stops.  I live in area code 30152 and would love to see better service once again.

To clarify, do you have service issues in multiple areas, or just this one in particular? *Estevan
