1X or 1xRTT is the slowest and oldest cellular technology used by Verizon Wireless. It basically means the phone isn't connected to the LTE or 3G network.

Just and FYI this also means you’re in an area with no coverage at the end of 2019. If this is a regular problem, you need to consider changing carriers by the end of the year

It's really disheartening to hear you have little to no service in those two areas, jseramur. While Ann154 was correct about the 1x (also known as 2G) technology being the oldest network we currently offer and mama23dogs is correct that with the CDMA retirement described at https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-218813/ the 1x and 3G technologies will eventually stop working, we absolutely don't want to see you considering another carrier. I'd like to make sure you are not left without service in the areas you need us the most and find out a little more about what's causing you to have difficulties in 49601 and 49638. To be certain we head down the best path for a solution to restore the voice and data capability to your device if possible, what model phone are you using? Does the difficulty with signal and connectivity happen when you're near a particular intersection in either of those towns? When did you being to notice the 1x or no service in those areas?

The tower that broadcast the 1xRTT and 3G EDVO network will be converted to broadcast the 4G LTE or 5G network.

I'm sorry you're receiving a 1X signal Morava. Ten years of this signal can be upsetting. This kind of service can definitely give you problems with calls, text, and data. If you're in a 4g area you should see 4g/LTE at the top of your phone or at least 3g. What is your zipcode? What phone do you have? Are there multiple lines on your account that have issues and are problems both in and outside your home?

De-ja-vu all over again. Been there - done that.
While being a Verizon customer for many years living where we do (Cheshire, CT 06410), it is disappointing to read the 1X problem currently being experienced has been a problem for soo long!!
Paying for 5 lines for as many years as I can remember - total accumulated payments should be close to the cost of building a tower!!!

We definitely appreciate your many years and efforts in working with us to get the best possible service. There are no alerts for your area. To confirm, does your service improve outside of Chesire?

zNickMan, we truly understand the importance of making sure you have reliable service. We would like the opportunity to further review the details of your concern. Are you currently having service concerns in your area? What services are impacted (calls, text, data)? May we have your nearest intersection, City, and zip code so we can accurately pinpoint your location?

I've had the same problem since updating the software on my iPhone 6 - no cellular connection and no service unless I'm using wifi. Sorry to have trusted apple with their updates.

Issues after an update is never a fun experience, especially when it impacts your cellular signal. Do you experience this everywhere you travel with your device or just in one remote area? Have you attempted to reset the network settings in your device since this had occurred? If not, that is the first thing I would recommend. JoeyM_VZW

We changed to Verizon when we started wintering in Florida a few years ago but now in Iowa, we are losing connectivity, often working with one bar and 1X service. We live in a fairly rural area, but in eastern Iowa and wonder if we should change back to US Cellular even though their service is not as good in Florida. This poor service began in April when we got back from Florida this spring. We are hardly ever getting more than two bars or 3G. Is the pandemic changing our service and if so, will this be a permanent change? Should we go back to US Cellular?

rjjedudley, we definitely understand your concern regarding service. 1X service would be limited service for calls and standard texts. The service goes from 4GLTE , 3G and then 1X. May we ask what ZIP Code you are having issues? Have you done any troubleshooting steps such as restarting your devices?
