The "Extended 4G " is a Verizon scam

I have been using the Samsung droid charge for more than a month. Beofre I signed up, I checked on Verizon web site which indicated my area is within an "Extended 4G" area. However, I can only get at most 3 bars of 3G signal. I thought that may be due to I was checking the signal inside the house or my house is at a blind spot. But I checked signal around our community during "after diner walks", I could not detect any spot that has 4G signal. Verizon should correct its coverage map and stop misleading customers with the so-called "extended 4G".

That is why the map web site states the following:
These Coverage Locator maps depict predicted and approximate wireless coverage. The coverage areas shown do not guarantee service availability, and may include locations with limited or no coverage. Even within a coverage area, there are many factors, including customer's equipment, terrain, proximity to buildings, foliage, and weather that may impact service. Some of the Coverage Areas include networks run by other carriers, the coverage depicted is based on their information and public sources, and we cannot ensure its accuracy.

I fully understand that fine prints.
But if there is no 4g signal detected by a Verizon-sold 4G device in most places of the so called "extended 4g area" like my neighborhood, then verizon should consider either remove the "4G..." or improve the signal.

How far away do you have to travel to get 4G from your neighborhood? Some devices will see a 4g signal but if it's weak or has lots of errors transmitting it won't switch to it. The threshold varies depending on the device you are using and such.

I looked up Boyds, it is a ways out from the dark red 4G coverage. Granted it is in the extended area though based on the map.

Good Morning everyone!
As you may or may not know, a typical 'extended network' exists due to our partnerships with other carriers in those areas. In the case with 4G extended networks, we are using our network; it's available and has been tested under unblemished conditions. Many things can have a negative affect on wireless signal transmissions.
The 4G map on our website has this to say about Extended Coverage: "Access the 4G LTE network within the Extended Coverage Area; certain conditions may cause your service to connect to 3G in this Area".
We are rapidly expanding and strengthening our 4G network across the country so this will not always be the case!
Have a great day!

I happen to know that they are having a problem with the 4G coverage and are in the process of fixing it. But, of course, we aren't notified! I paid good money for the Droid Bionic and am very upset with my service!

I am in a dark 4g area now for over one month, that was part of why I got the phone. HOWEVER, there is no 4g at the store that I bought it and they told me the signal comes and goes. The 44077 zip shows extended and regular 4g and there is NO coverage.
Even driving several miles west into 4g land does not get you a signal most of the time. The signal stops like a wall just at one intersection in the 44060 area. So Extended 4g for phone and MiFI is a farse.
The regular 4g also shows into 44094 Kirtland Hills area and there is barely a 3g signal.
The Map needs to be retuned and borders re done.

Thanks for your response.
I will contact VZW to report my problems with 4G here. I have tested around our area (~a community with ~800 houses) which was shown as 'extended 4g area", ~1 mile away from "real 4g". Most of the places only have 3g signal (~90 dbm, 45%), sometimes, show 1x. Few spots do occasionally show 4G, but when I tried to do Speed Test, my phone showed "network comminication issues".

Did anyone ever consider to call VZW for starters? Maybe the tower that supports your area is not working properly and they might like to know this. How are they going to know or correct issues when nobody will pick up the phone and call in.

Why is this string marked as resolved? That is just blatent disregard for customers' legitimate concerns. I have been on the phone with Verizon customer service at least 45 times since July and my Droid Charge 4G still does not work. It didn't work, right out of the box and because of a restocking fee and the fact that Verizon didn't offer the plan I was coming from any longer, I was not able to undo my purchase. My internet connection is my livelyhood, so now I get to pay for an addition one (so I can still have a job), while Verizon claims to be working on the issue. Here's the issue. I "upgraded" from an older 3G phone that worked GREAT for tethering, but I wanted a device I could work from in a pinch. With this "new and improved device" I get kicked out of my live meetings every few minutes. My Outlook email file is constantly struggling to connect and update, missing important emails throughout the day. My chat service is more often offline than online and even when online, my clients get an error message when they try to reach out to me. It does the same thing even after I disable 4G, and try to work off a 3G connection. In addition to going through the beginner troubleshooting efforts on nearly everyone of my ~45 calls, I've recevied a replacement device and SIM card. STILL NOTHING WORKS.
I almost didn't post here, because it seems like a complete waste of time, but I felt compelled to nonetheless.
Hoping Verizon can help those paying good money for a 4G connection actually get a 4G connection.

First I do not understand how having to change a plan prohibited you from returning the phone.
2nd, and it is a question, are you paying for the tethering package????

KCKC, thank you for your inquiry. I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your phone. The post was marked as resolved because the original poster was questioning the term Extended 4G, and that was explained. If you are in an extended 4G, it is very likely that you will pick up 3G instead of 4G depending on signal strength and distance from towers. I am not showing you mentioning an issue with extended 4G.
You mentioned 4G hasn't worked since you got the phone. Are you in a 4G area? Are you picking up 4G, but then losing the connection? We do plan on making improvements to the reliability of data in the Charge with the next software release. We do not have a date for when this will be released yet, but once available, it will be pushed to your device.. Also, anytime you change a plan, even if it is grandfathered, you have the option of changing back to your previous plan within 60 days. We would need to submit a request to get the plan switched back, and it normally takes 24-48 hours.

MarquiaF, is it now 60 days??? Other VZW reps have stated the time frame is 14 days only.

Normally within 14 days the feature is still available on the account and can be added back right away. We can submit a request within 60 days of the feature being changed to add it back on.

I'm looking at these 2011 dates. I spent lots of time in Michigan's Thumb this summer looking for a home and the area is marked with an extended network. Not sometimes but most of the time there was very limited coverage except right in the little towns like Port Hope, Forestville, Deckerville & Port Sanilac. Those with homes/cottages on the lake are out of luck and it is now 2020.
In Chicagoland I am golden but I'm telecommuting, hence it looks like good bye to Verizon.

I have the same issue, on my town that is a big red dot saying 4G available, phone would not get 4G even at verizon store which is in Town.
I call the Verizon 4G (extra $$$) extended map a big farse, worst in my case that the 3G keeps dropping and the only solution is to re-start the phone....
