I just opened a personal account, and would like to add my husbands phone to my account. He is currently on Verizon, just on a plan with another family member currently.
Do I just add an additional line, and include information with his SIM card to transfer the line and phone number over?

Combining accounts with your spouse is never a bad idea. What I would recommend if he wants to keep his phone number is to complete a Transfer of Service.

You would not need to add a temporary line to bring his over. Does this information help?
