Verizon has told me that in North Central Austin Texas there is terrible data speeds because they can't expand the current pole

Summary:  The data rates in my area my area have been horrible for months. Typical download speeds of less than 1MB!

I have talked with Verizon support multiple times on the phone.  They told me that the city owns the tower in this area and it's at capacity.  They are not allowed to expand on it.  So Verizon is looking for another pole or needs to build one.   But for over 4 months now my downloads speeds are less then 1MB per second!!!

I'm paying all the money every month for 4g service and I'm getting dial up speeds.  I'm getting ripped off.  Verizon won't even give me a refund!  I'm FURIOUS!!!!

Talk to your city, your city representatives, and your neighbors. Very often this is a NIMBY problem and not a Verizon problem.

that makes no sense to me! I'm paying for a service and I'm not getting it.  My part of the equation is covered and it's on Verizon to provide the promised level of service.

Then you should look for a provider which better serves your needs, although they have the same obstacles to overcome when erecting new towers, etc...

Why should I have to do this?  I'm paying Verizon for a service and they not providing the level of service they promised.  I mean seriously, this is their problem not mine.  They promise a fast network and I pay over 100 a month and am getting .25Mbps - .75Mbps downloads!  At this point it's been going on for months and they still haven't done anything to fix it.  I know they are capable of putting up temporary cell towers at large events to expand coverage and data rates.  Have the done that? No.  In fact they haven't given me  any straight answers as to what their plan is...

Because environmental groups petition these same representatives AGAINST erecting new towers. They also have to hear from people who WANT additional towers or else they simply deny/postpone granting approval.

NO! They need to hear from data network providers showing they can't provide the thru put that customers expect.  They need to show them the amount of lost customers because we need are going to switch to another provider.

The local government wants to hear from its citizens, not a corporation wanting to put towers in their jurisdiction. Really, many towers are denied by the local city government at the urging of the local citizens. That is what NIMBY is - Not in My Back Yard. Very often Verizon wants to put towers in and is denied.

You want a temporary cell tower which has to be moved/taken down after a few days? How is that going to help you. I thought you would want a more permanent solution?

how cow man! Are you paid by Verizon to defend them?
Who says it would have be taken down after a few days?  Leave it up as long as it takes to find a solution.  If it's days, weeks or months; so be it.

That would be a "permanent" tower, then, not a "temporary" one. Likely not to be the same approval process.

I don't know about your area, but in my area, cell companies have taken YEARS to gain approval to erect towers in some areas because of petitions by local environmental groups.

Your local government representatives do not care whether or not Verizon loses customers. They only care about bad press from vocal groups and environmental groups are VERY vocal.

no probably a completely different process.  and since they can't expand on the tower in this area it's a moot point.  Seriously, you must be verizon employee defending this!

Let me ask you this.  If you were consistently (day and night) getting 1g speeds from verizon in your area would you go petition the government?  Hell no!  You'd start at verizon!  And that's what I'm doing here.

I'm not defending anything. I'm simply stating facts about how I KNOW things have worked around where I live. Whether or not they are the same in your area I certainly don't know, but I ASSUME local government agencies would have to give approval before Verizon could do anything AND that most local government officials have absolutely no backbone when it comes to standing up to vocal groups who don't necessarily have the best interest of the general public.

You would be wrong on BOTH counts. First, I wouldn't waste my time with the government because it would likely STILL take years to see any improvement. Second, I wouldn't waste my time with Verizon and would switch to a provider which had better service in the area. I was in the SAME predicament as you and left another provider and came to Verizon because of the better coverage. Of course, I went to 3 straight months of town meetings where my cellular provider was petitioning for the approval to erect a tower to service my area only to be blocked at each meeting by a local environmental group petitioning against the provider. I switched and then 3 yrs later, the cellular provider was finally successful in getting the tower erected. I was long gone by that time, though.

We definitely want to feed your need for 4G speed rubadubematt. We would never want to see you upset. What is the zip code where you are located? Does issue only occur in this area or is it happening anywhere you are? If only in this area, about how far do you have to travel for the service to improve?

the Zipcode is 78752.  I happens all around Austin.  I've been testing and mapping the data using the app Sensorly.  Look at the Map below!  I commonly get .015 MBS download speeds!  I want to help but I also feel like I'm wasting my money and getting ripped off!  I don't care who owns the polls, I'm paying for a service and I'm not getting it. PLEASE HELP

Above is the link to the mapped data.  I have to go north about 3 or 4 miles to get better data, but even then it's sometimes slow.  This city is getting bogged down! Your network used to be the best and now it's probably as bad as Sprint

Look at this data map...

Red dots indicate a speed test of 5Mbps or less.  Here's the sad part.  Almost all the tests so far are 1Mbps or less and on average are only about .25Mbps.
