I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon last Sunday to what I thought would be a more reliable faster wireless service. I've spent most of the week so far testing the network with my new Galaxy 4 and have very disappointing results. I am getting faster network speeds on my HTC myTouch4g on t-mobiles 4g network than on my new galaxy 4 on Verizon's 4g LTE network. I can't believe the results I'm seeing. I really believed their commercials and marketing hype about being the fastest and most reliable, but not here in Washington DC its not. I will be returning the phones this weekend. Good think I didn't turn off my T-Mobile coverage yet.

It's very possible that speeds will get much better with AWS deployment. But yeah, DC speeds have been quite awful for well over a year now. For anyone looking to switch to Verizon I'd suggest waiting a few more months to see whether or not things improve here. At the moment AT&T and Tmobile are far better options for the area.
