What happens to additional lines when you don't renew contract?

My contract is nearly up, and I will not be renewing. I am purchasing a home and will be going to a pre paid stupid phone. I have two other lines on my account. The second one is my gfs and hers expires a month after mine. The third one is my parents (basic phone) and it doesnt expire till 2015.
Since it's my account, if I close it after my gfs contract expires...what happens to the third line? Right now with sharing my minutes it only costs me $17 a month for it. I can only imagine that when it's all by itself that cost would rise considerably.

Well if your out of contract and leave, the second line would become the primary. If your girl friend leaves after you then the third line on your account becomes primary. Now the cost of a basic phone is cheaper than a smart phone. However the individual plan for a basic phone I have no idea. Just call *611 and ask what a one line basic phone rate would be or look it up at the http://www.verizonwireless.com portal.

Elector thanks for helping us support hobkyl with information regarding options to cancel or release a line on his account. Rather than canceling your lines of service, you have the option of releasing them to a family member or friend. http://vz.to/187wQRK
We provide several single line plan options for 1 line of service. Click http://bit.ly/xdDajD for details regarding our Share Everything plans.

Thats really just crap. So if someone went through a divorce, had someone pass away, or any other myriad of reasons...the account holder is responsible to pay anyway? Its an additional line that shouldnt have anything to do with the primary account.

The line in question can be released under the assumption of liability. Then you are off the hook. You have three lines so if two are removed you make the third line the primary. Its just common sense that it would work that way.
Have your parent assume the third line. You then have no more liability for it.
Good Luck

Common sense would be that if they assumed responsibility it wouldnt cost them over $40 when I only pay $17 for the line for them as they are on a fixed budget and its for emergencies.
Do you work for VZW?

It's always been cheaper to be part of a family share than on a single line plan.

This is a customer to customer forum. Ocassionally reps do get on however are clearly marked as employees. So no, he is not, neither am I. If you are wanting to chat with a rep, this is not the place to do it.

No I don't work for verizon. I spend time here since I am retired, it gives me something to do to help other customers.
However I gave you correct information. I cannot change the process or the facts. Sorry

I understand that but when the primary cancels, then the plan along with all the lines should as well. The line was added after I had been a customer for 10 years.
Just wondering why Elector spends so much time here. They always answer questions

Which means if I wait till that contract expires in 2015, then mine and my gfs lines wont be ready to expire. So I am stuck.

Each line has it's own separate contract, even though they're on a family plan. When the contract on the other 2 expires, it won't renew unless you get new phones at the 2yr pricing. The third line has to finish it's contract regardless of when the other 2 are up.
