My husband has a brand new iPhone 5c and it always displays 3G. According to the map, we have 4G coverage in our area of NC. My iPhone 4s also shows 3G. Why would that be?

We need to get to the bottom of this ASAP, RuthInNC. What zip code do you reside in? How long ago did your husband purchase his phone? Can you try powering the device off for 20-30 seconds and see if the 4G signal retuns.
In regards to your phone, you have a 3G device. So it should have 3G signal. I look forward to hearing back from you.

4G may show on the map but it is not 100% guaranteed for any number of factors.
On a lighter note Sprint advertised 4G service yet customers never see it unless in very limited areas. Now the 3 G service is upgraded to Vision?
Good Luck

Thanks, ChaunceyM. We're in zip 28025. My husband bought his phone a little over a week ago. It's been powered off and back on several times since the purchase, since he turns it off each night and charges it.. At least I know now why mine shows 3G, so thanks for that info. 🙂

Congrats on the new phone, RuthInNC!
Let's have him power the phoen off, then remove & reinsert the SIM on his 5c.
Have him go to settings>cellular>cellular data>enable
Then settings>cellular>enable LTE should be enabled
Make sure data roaming is on as well settings>cellular>roaming
Let us know how that works.

Hi Tamara,
We're all good now. I put a reply to Chauncey in the discussion yesterday.
I unintentionally gave him misinformation. My husband had not been
turning his phone off at night - had not turned it off at all since he
bought it. When I told him Chauncey's first suggestion - turn it off for a
few seconds and turn it back on - he tried it and that did it. He's
showing LTE now and is totally happy.
Thanks!

Hey, ChaunceyM, I gave you wrong information in my reply. Turns out my husband had NOT been turning off his phone every night to charge it. When I gave him your suggestion, he turned it off for one minute and turned it back on. Next time he left the house and our wifi signal, his phone started picking up LTE.
Looks like his problem is resolved. Thank you!!
