The only way to keep Unlimited Data is to either buy a phone from Amazon or some other place or buy it from Verizon (in store) or Third Party Reseller (Not the big box stores) You will need to pay the NON subsidized price for it and NO contract. As soon as you take a contract, and the subsidized price, you loose Unlimited Data.

Yes, I've done it in the past; just make sure you do it in a store so you'll have someone who'll take accountability for it.
I think the phone itself is part of it... if you go from Android to Iphone then you need a different data package, but staying within the same sort of phone should keep you safe.

Android or iPhone data is all the same. I have 4 iPhones and 1 Android phone all on the same plan.
What you can't do and keep your unlimited data plan is get a new phone from Verizon at a subsidized price. You must pay full price from Verizon or get you new phone from somewhere else and then activate it on your Verizon plan. i.e. craigslist, ebay, or third party.
Good luck,

Are you sure? I have the grandfathered plan and I did exactly that two times. I was told I just can't go to an Iphone.

It's been the way that Jakeman1 said for around a year. If you upgraded before this particular policy for unlimited data was in place, then you were able to keep your plan.

How far in the past! Unlimited grandfathering stopped on or around June 27 of 2012 that is when I upgraded my last phone a Razr Maxx after that if you wanted a phone and keep your Unlimited you had to pay full retail.

Congratulations on your decision to upgrade dirkbonn!
I know it's important to be well aware of all the changes that may take place when upgrading, I am happy to clarify. What you will do is upgrade the line that is currently eligible(Line A) to do so. You will then activate the new phone under the same line just upgraded (Line A); once you do that, you can switch the new phone to your line (Line B). This way, the data plan on Line B, will remain the same. The data plan on Line A will change to a tiered plan, most likely 2GB for $30/month. In addition, all data plans are the same for Android phones or iPhones, they don't differ. Lastly, if you want to keep unlimited data on both lines, you can do so by upgrading with a Device Payment Plan. More details here http://bit.ly/y5iuoj .

So on top of the Verizon Options spelled out above, you can purchase the phone elsewhere (Amazon, etc...) then put that phone on any line you want and keep the data plan you have on those lines. The key is to NOT use a Verizon Upgrade to do this and do NOT sign a new 2 year contract.

Sorry, wasn't me that wanted to upgrade. I gave up my unlimited and went to the Share plan well over a year ago. We don't use much data so ended up saving us about $12 a month. Not a huge amount, but $12 is $12. So far it's a total saving of $192.00 on our wireless phone bill.
