Hi,
I travelled to India and used google voice over internet to make calls to US to connect with my young children in US. I always used to make sure that calls were made when i had wifi. However, I didnt know that google voice preferred local network carrier by default and didnt make the calls over wifi if there is carrier reachable on the phone. I was shocked when I received charges of $276.23 for these calls. I had tried to login to vzw many times to see if any international charges were being incurred but there wasnt any info about real time charges in current cycle. Much later I learnt about a setting in GV to allowed me to only use wifi for calls. I and have since configured that. Can someone please adjust my bill and waive off these accidental international charges. I did call verizon customer service whie in india before my current bill cycle ended to explain this but wasnt successful in getting them to understand the issue and waive these charges. I have been a loyal verizon customer since many years.

They'll see them as valid charges since service was used. You'd have a case if you didn't receive any notifications, but if Verizon sent you warnings that were ignored, nothing they can do.
Might be able to negotiate with them by requesting a rerate based off international plans instead of a refund.

You want Verizon to eat the charges for how a 3rd party app YOU chose to use was utilizing the local cellular network?
They were your charges, you should pay for them. Lesson learned, next time you will be more careful.

I didnt get any notifications that i was making a international call. I think there should be some notification that informs and asks that you are making a international call and if you want to block it.

Then it seems it should be Google Voice which should provide the notification, not Verizon, since you were using Google Voice to make the call.
Regardless, you seem to have known you were making an international call, just not which network you were using.
