I am receiving text messages as I am traveling in Thailand even though airplane mode is on. This happens when I'm connected to Wifi, but airplane mode is on. I am using the Galaxy S8 Samsung Messaging app. I am concerned that I will be charged for the text messages. Anyone else experience this?

You phone is capable it WiFi talk and text from the US, or US numbers. There is no charge for those text messages or calls while using WiFi calling.
Wi-Fi calling -- does text messages too!. All works as if you were physically in US. You can call US, text, and receive calls, no charge while in Wi-Fi calling. Should see VZW Wi-Fi in status area.
