Signed up for services without consent

After many years of service with few complaints, Verizon recently started signing me up for additional services without my knowledge or consent. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.

First, I got an email on Jul 27 2021 welcoming me to "Verizon Mobile Protect" and thanking me for enrolling. I absolutely did not sign up for anything. When I tried to chat with support, they told me I had to call to get it removed even though I didn't consent to having it in the first place.
After an hour on hold, I did get someone on the phone, and they spent the entire time trying to give me a sales pitch about why I need this. It took forever and a lot of begging but I finally got them to agree to remove it.

Then, on August 11 2021, almost the same exact thing - an email from Verizon welcoming me to "Total Equipment Coverage" and thanking me for enrolling. AGAIN. Same exact process only this time they tried their hardest to avoid letting me cancel. The chat rep deliberately gave me misleading information, like that I'd be able to remove the service from the app. Of course, any actual support agent would know it's NOT POSSIBLE to cancel, downgrade, or remove a service through the app. You have to call. And wait on hold forever.
This time, on the call, the agent was even more aggressive. She kept asking what my plan is without this "amazing offer" and told me I really "must not understand the benefits if I think I want to cancel". Holy manipulation and gaslighting!

I'm currently in the process of switching to a new carrier after this abhorrent behavior. It's strange that both times when I reached out about these issues, the Verizon employees did not seem phased at all by the actions that were taken against me. Almost as if they know it's a regular occurance.

We definitely understand only wanting the services you need, and are here to help. You can definitely remove, and add any features from your My Verizon app, simply look for the add ons section of your My Verizon to remove any features you do not use, or to add any features that you would like. *Alfredo

You don't necessarily need to use the application to access your MyVerizon account online. You can sign in from the computer and remove those features from your account.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Wow very weird.  Never had them add anything I didn't request myself.  Are you the only one on the account?

I thought that part was odd too. I've had the call filter and cloud service added without my input, but never insurance. The cloud service I promptly remove when it happened. The call filter was free so I left it for now.

If no one else on the account authorized to make changes then you have to wonder what's going on.
