Can't get all my music on my phone since the update

Help!  I'm still having trouble transferring my music in iTunes to my Razr Maxx from my computer.  I have about 800 songs in iTunes, and I have tried all different apps to do the transfer, but for some reason I can only get about 230 of them transferred.  I know before the update I had all of the songs on my phone, so it's not a storage issue.

Also, since the update, I do not know how to make a song my ringtone.  I had a song as my ringtone, and since the update messed up my music, my ringtone got messed up too, so now I have to fix that too.  Now I have to use Google Play, but Google Play doesn't have an easy way to set music as a ringtone.  Does anyone know how to do it through Google Play?

Thank you!

If all else fails, put a copy of the mp3s you want to use as ringtones in your Ringtone folder; you should then see them as choices when you set ringtones for your phone/contacts.

Two questions--

First, how do a make a copy of the song that I want to use as a ringtone?

                                          and

Second, where is the Ringtone folder?

Thanks for your help.  I will definitely give this a try!

You can use the phone's file copy feature or a file manager (several are available on Google Play) to copy the files between folders.  You also can copy them from your computer to your phone.

The Ringtone folder should be in your phone's Device Storage (i.e., the root directory).

Sorry, but this is not helping.  I am trying to copy the song, and I can't figure out where to copy it from.  I feel so technologically impaired.  You are trying your best to help me, and it's just not working.  Do I need to download a file manager app from the Play Store?

Did you find your root directory (i.e., Device Storage)?  Look in it for your Music folder ... are the songs there?  To be honest, I've used my phone's copy feature and have a file manager on my phone, but I still do a lot of file copying/moving 'old school' with my phone connected to my computer so I can 'drag and drop'.

I found the file in the Music folder, but how do I copy it and put it in my Ringtone folder?

Let me know if this doesn't work; this is how it works on ICS on a Bionic, and it may be different on a Razr/Maxx with JB:

  • Highlight the song you want to copy
  • At the bottom of the screen, there should be a 'copy' button (looks like two pages on top of each other), press it
  • At the top of the screen it should say '1 copied', press it
  • You should get a pop-up to choose between Device Storage and the SD Card, press Device Storage
  • Scroll to the Ringtones folder, press it
  • At the top of the screen on the right-hand side, you should see the word Paste, press it
  • And you're done (I hope!).

This won't work because when I try to highlight the file, the screen disappears and says "File is not supported."  And there isn't a Copy button at the bottom.

I hate this, because with ICS I used to be able to press on the song and hold it, right in the music player, and it would come up saying "Set as Ringtone."  Now everything has changed, and it has to be so difficult...:(

Yeah, I like that 'use as ringtone' feature as well.  Unless there's some sort of copyright/protection issue with the songs (or some new quirk with JB that I'm not aware of), you should be able to put a copy in your Ringtones folder.

Sounds like you've got music that's protected ... didn't you say they came from iTunes?  I'm not that familiar with iTunes, but aren't there permission issues with some of the songs from that site?

But I had these songs on my phone before Jelly Bean.  I know that some songs are protected, but I can't see iTunes not allowing more than 500 of them back on my phone Smiley Sad
