Does anybody know how to move email messages to folders? Just bought this phone and all it shows is inbox and trash.

I need to create folders for my email.

If you are using Google mail, or gmail, there are no folders per se.  Gmail uses labels to keep track of your email and you can assign multiple labels to one message.

In the Gmail app, go to Menu, Go to labels and you can see all the labels you have.  If you want to apply a label to a message, while reading the message, select Menu and Change Label.  Or, while viewing messages in list view, check the message and then press Labels.

I don't know of a way to create new labels from the Android Gmail app.  I believe you must be logged into your Gmail account on the web to have that functionality.  See this link for more info.

If you're not using Gmail, then let us know what program you are using and maybe someone who is using it can help.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I have a Gmail account and will try your advice.

Again I'm a new-be at this and a former iPhone user.

You're welcome, Antonio.  I moved from an iDevice to the Razr but before that moved from Outlook to Gmail.  I'd used Outlook forever and couldn't imagine using Gmail or Google Calendar instead but now I can't imagine going back!

Not sure if you're new to Gmail or just the Razr, but if you need help with Gmail, there's some great help here on Getting Started.  Or feel free to ask!

SallyC I'd be interested in your "take" on the differences between the iDevice and Razr...I manage a large infrastructure for a medical practice. We have 22 docs, mostly using iPhones but some using Droids of one flavor or another.

What's been your greatest challenge in the change-over?

What do you feel is glaringly lacking in either device?

Probably shouldn't have hijacked Antonio's thread should I? Smiley Happy

My iDevice was an iPod, not a phone, although I used it for email and everything (but the phone, obviously).  Ironically, the phone is still the part of the Razr that I use least.  It's just that now I don't need wifi to connect my apps to the Internet.

As a person who's worked as a Nursing Informaticist involved in training doctors and nurses in utilizing IT, as well as implementing computerized medical records, the greatest challenge is getting busy people who are already competent doing something one way, to learn to do it another.  Especially if it makes them feel incompetent while they are learning.   As you probably already know, involving "super users" to help you find and develop the best IT options for their specialties is critical.

It seems to me there are more medical specialty apps for the iDevices and I think partly because Apple has been much more aggressive in that market share.  But the Android is more open so your ability to develop and also share data will be much easier.

In a nutshell, those are my thoughts.

We've faced some of those challenges you mention. I have no issue with the newer iPhones, I forbade them until the damned things could be encrypted/use SSL. Since I'm the network engineer it wasn't too hard to push them off. I seem to be the one that does the training and troubleshooting and the iPhones are incredibly easy to use - but so darn dumb. Even back to the OG Droid there was just no comparison in capabilities...but as you say, it's hard to get them to slow down long enough to learn anything, much less a new device. We don't push them one way or another but may in the future. Thank you for your input!

What email service? I don't know of a way to add Folders from the Phone UI but you can do so from the web site for Google, Yahoo etc...then set the phone to sync and show those folders.

You're very welcome. GMail uses something called "Labels" so when you go to www.gmail.com and sign in, look in the upper right corner for the little gear symbol/icon, click that and then mail settings. When Mail Settings loads, look for the 'Labels' Tab.
