I elected the Droid Razr Maxx over Samsung Stratosphere and Droid 4 primarily (which had regular keyboards) due to the battery life. It's been great in that regard. However, 3 months later I am still very frustrated with it's typing recognition capabilities (even after upgrade to ICS). It seems that it is subject to many more errors and having to backspace and correct than my Blackberry. I am using Skype ,still no improvement.
Yet a friend who also owns a Razr Maxx and has been having the same frustrating experience with it tried an iphone4 and made not one typing error. I also tried a iphone4 and it was definitely better - no question about it.
I've also tried turning it so that the keyboard is horizontal and no improvement. It just seems that the keyboard is very unforgiving and you must hit the exact center of the key in order for it to type out the letter you had intended. A little off to the side or top and it gets it wrong. Very frustrating.
Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions or any hope for Motorola to provide a better touch-screen keyboard? It seems to me that it would be a simple matter of a software update.

Check the market for keyboards. They have several to download. Smart Keyboard appears to be a very popular one. I like the Swype feature and some of them that I've tried, unfortunately, do not Swype.
