Droid Razr can't send picture messages since JellyBean update

Hello,

Ever since my Droid Razr updated to the JellyBean system, I have been unable to send any picture messages. It will attempt to send them, then I get the message bounced back, with the triangle exclamation point saying "message failed, tap here to review" or something similar. I also get this response when uploading pictures to facebook, but the pictures actually do get uploaded. I've checked with my friends, and they aren't getting the picture messages. Help!?

Well i assume something has been Fixed as a few minutes ago).  I sent out a MMS picture message from both of my phones The first message i sent was on my Razr Maxx that i still have ICS on it went out to my Maxx that has Jelly Bean on it.. I then sent a MMS picture Message from my Maxx with J.B. after it re-sized the Picture back to my phone that has ICS it worked like a charm there was only a 10 sec. limit between the time it went out of each phone to the time the receiving phone got the Message..Smiley Happy  b33

Both phones are Working well No issues as of Now with the Messaging..   Written by b33 @ 8:26 PM 5 / 6 / 2013

Those phones can be sneaky if you aren't watching their every move.

That's the one.  And as far as I know, this is true for all carriers, not just Verizon.

That explains why it used to be (and may still be) that you have to have a data plan on AT&T to send and receive pic messages.  For a long time I couldn't send picture texts to my sister because her phone couldn't receive them.  At least Verizon includes them as text messages and doesn't charge data for them.

yep I also confirmed it cannot be done without cellular data on. Strange I will have my pal turn his cellular data off and have him try it.

I had the same problem on my Razr - couldn't send photos.  They would get stuck in the Outbox and I couldn't even delete them.  I put the phone on Airplane mode and only then could I delete the pending Outbox emails (with photos).  I then tried to send via Gmail instead on my other email and everything worked fine.  You can spend time trying to resolve or just make sure you send any photos via Gmail.

Gormican,

That seems to be a bit odd to me. Are these picture messages getting stuck in your outbox on an email or through text message? If it's email, what email provider is it? Have you tried to delete that email account off the phone and then add it back on? Keep us posted.

Hi dhedman88,

Let's get to the bottom of this! What specific issues are you experiencing with your device? When did the problem begin? I look forward to hearing from you soon.

3 people (including myself) already answered that question quite fully in this thread.  I assume everyone on this thread would benefit from an answer to those specific issues.  I don't know that asking again helps move this along.

HD user on a New device as of 2013-01-27, ran fine after the JB rollout and then on or about ~2013-05-13 picture msgs no longer send. It doesn't matter the size or the carrier. Even m2m fail. Also there is an increased rate of failed m2m txt which I never had before this time. Another observation is that web browsing is crippled over some WiFi networks, Turning it off and running 4g and it screams to life. So what changed on or around 2013-05? Did something get pushed? Reboot does not help.

I'm having the same problem on my RAZR MAXX.  can't send pictures and can't send MMS.  someone else in this thread suggested turning off wifi, which does work, but seems like a stupid requirement.  go to 'all settings', then 'more'.  go to 'mobile networks' and make sure 'data enabled' is checked.  under 'network mode', select 'LTE/CDMA'...  this will make things work, but then the phone won't use wifi correctly. close the settings, now go back in and change 'network mode' back to 'Global'.  When I did this, my MMS messages sent using the cell network and everything else used wifi.  Hope this solves the problem for everyone else.

Hi Gbatch,

Picture Messages are important memories! I know having a properly working phone is important. I want to help. MMS messages are sent over the Verizon Wireless network. MMs messages can send when WIFI is turned on, depending on how strong your Verizon Wireless network signal. If you are in a stronger VZW signal area then sending messages with Wifi turned on will work. If you are in a weaker VZW signal area then sending MMS messages with WiFi turned on will not work. Hope this helps!

So in other words we are screwed because I just moved to a new house and only get 3G with 1 signal bar and have been using wifi and having bad luck sending pictures, what gives I thought wifi would be answer for the problem of not having good Verizon signal

As noted earlier in this thread, picture messages won't send over wi-fi, you have to have a network connection.  For some folks that have wi-fi and a network connection both enabled, their phones switch seamlessly between the two as needed.  For others (and this may be your case), wi-fi has to be turned off so that the network connection can send/receive picture messages.  A pain I know, but it is what it is sometimes.

I am in Michigan just north of Detroit and where I lived which is nine miles from where I'm at now the tower was less than a quarter mile away and I have been with Verizon for over 12 years back when it was called Airtouch and now I am in a popular area but no signal so I have to use WIFI but not good for sending pics
