Droid Razr - keyboard/texting problems

Help! Ever since my device updated to ICS my keyboard is possessed! It types gibberish, types multiple letters when I type just one, types wrong letters, and tries to dial contacts in the middle of my typing a text. I almost cannot use the phone for texting at times. I've seen other similar complaints. What is being done to fix this problem? Am I just stuck with this situation?

Hi armj,

Help is here! Quick question, is your device charging while you encounter the issue? If while charging are you using the original Motorola charger that came with the phone? Any additional information you can provide regarding when this keyboard issue is occuring, will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

I will add to what George Mentioned and ask have you Tried a Soft Reset if not try that and if that doesn't help try a System Cache Clear.. if you need the Instructions Let me Know and i will post it on here for ya. And your Razr might have to be Set back to Factory Setting = Factory Reset but try what i an George mentioned First.. Good Luck b33Smiley Happy

I have the same exact problem as armj and have been having these problems since I purchased my droid razr about 4 months ago. Verizon told me to clear the cache and restart the phone, and that sometimes helps the problem; but for example, it is not helping right now. I even switched the input mode to swype to help, and its not. It happens quite often and at different times... while the phone's charging and while it's not charging.. and the charger I use was not the one that I purchased with the phone, but a replacement one I purchased at the verizon store (because it has a longer cord). This makes texting so difficult because it keeps sending these gibberish texts to my friends and will call them while I'm texting...  I really need some help???

DrKnight, nothing is more annoying than a device that isn't operating correctly. I will do all I can to get this resolved for you. My suggest at this point would be to complete a Master Reset. http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=49625 This step resolves so many minor issues, like the ones you described. Please give it a try and keep me posted.

I have the same problem, thought it was just me until the typing on its own issue happened. This seems to happen either while charging or not, but as i have the original Razr its charging most of the time. This started right after ICS install. Very frustrating when all i want to do is send a quick txt while at work at it takes several minutes while i back space, re type email address, or re type whole txt as it sends out half way through.

Try doing a System Cache Clear and see if that clears your Issue up if it does not you might Try a Factory Reset i did and it Helped my Razr Maxx that i Updated Last Month.. PS i would do only the Factory Reset not the Internal storage or the SD unless you Really have to i did Just the Factory Reset and it Cleared up my issues with the Keyboard and Such...Good Luck and have a Good Weekend..  b33

I had the same problem the past few days. It was as if my Droid was royally possessed. I cleared the cache, and everything else I could think of, shy of actually doing a factory reset. Something told me to hold off on that and double check various trouble-shooting web sites/discussion forums to include VZ's.  So glad I did in that what Customer Support mentioned, double check to see if this is happening while you are charging and if so, is it the regular Motorola charger.  What I personally found was it was (1) in the charging mode (of which I never had problems with before, and (2) it was with the non-Motorola charger.  I conducted my own testing (with the charger and without the phone being charge) and sure enough, it would only be "possessed" when I had this particular charger connected.  Now my phone no longer acts as if it was possesssed.  The things it was doing (from when I was attempting to write text messages and weird type/stuff would come up) to it would just do its own thing of selecting other applications even though I had not touched them...the list goes on.  I was wanting to throw the bloody thing up against the wall.  But good qigong deep breathing and exercising patience, along w ith double-checking discussions forums on this particular issue............all is well.  So hope this helps you in your issue
