I'm having the same problem with my HTC Incredible right now- lost all my contacts and the back-up assistant only restored 1/8 of my contacts.

You could try copying the contents of your SD card directly to your PC. Most new PCs have a SD card reader slot. Then re-insert your SD card into your device and try to reformat it. If that doesn't work....you may have to get a new SD card. Bummer.

Katherine, thanks for your post and trying to troubleshoot on your own. We need to determine whether this is an issue with the card itself or the phone hardware. Do you have another SD card to try? If so, please insert that one in your phone. Try your SD card in another phone or computer as well. If your phone is not reading any SD cards, the phone may need to be replaced. If the SD card cannot be read in other devices, it may need to be replaced.

Help is here Debroy. May I ask have you tried the steps that MarquiaF noted? If so then what were the results? Also, what size is the memory card? Can I assume that there isn't any physical or liquid damage on the device? Let us know the status so we can proceed.
Thank you...

I keep getting a warning message that my sd card has unexpectedly unmounted. Other than rebooting each time this happens to treat the symptom, is there a cure?

Cubman23,
There's a remedy for just about everything. Do you also have the DROID RAZR? How long has this been going on? Any physical damage done to the SD card? And when you check the slot can you tell if it's loose or not?

I have the same issue with my RZR so I went out and bought a brand new SD card and it still has the same issue. My SD card remains empty and my phone storage is over 90% used. This is frustrating the crap out of me. I cant afford a new phone. Gimmie a fix here!....Please?

Sounds like you have a damaged SD card slot on your device. Can the SD card be read on any other device?

...now, all of my images are gone and I can't use the camera because no SD card..."insert storage device before using". What!? I've been taking pictures on the internal storage for 20+ months! and now THOSE are gone!

Just inserting an SD card should not have deleted the photos stored in internal memory. Connect your phone to a PC, open the phone Icon on your PC,in my case it's Droid Razr HD > Internal Storage > DCIM > Camera. Your photos should still be there. If they are there, then copy them to a PC for backup. You may have to go to Settings > Apps > All > Media storage and clear cache and data, then reboot your phone for photos to show up in the Gallery again.
For the SD card, format it on the PC if you can, then insert it into your phone making sure that it fully seats into the SD slot (this is important).

I have a similar problem.
Droid Razr M
Recognizes an older Kingston 2GB micro SD card. Can unmount and mount.
Bought a SanDisk Ultra 32GB micro SDHC I (think it is a class Ultra 1?) in December. Worked fine for about 5 or 6 weeks. I was able to put podcasts, photos, etc. onto the 32GB card and access everything from phone. About 1 week ago, phone stopped recognizing new 32GB card. 32GB card can be read fine by my PC using built in SD card slot and micro SD adapter. When I put this 32GB card in my phone, it does not mount. I have re-booted phone with and without the card installed, etc.
Here is a link to what the sd card looks like:
http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-class10-for-android/
Copied contents to PC. Reformatted card. Phone still does not recognize card.
Installed the SanDisk Memory Zone App - still doesn't work.
Is it possibly a driver issue? How can we get someone at Motorola or Verizon to look at this?
Looking for a solution.

Remove the card from your phone, mount it on your PC, copy everything from your SD card to the PC, reformat the card with the PC, reinstall in the phone. The phone should now recognize the card. You an then reformat the card on your phone if you want to.
