Droid razr maxx won't send or receive picture messages

I updated my phone on 1/19/14 when prompted and everything seemed fine until today when I discovered I can't send or receive picture messages. When attempting to send, my text app (I use the default app) acts like it's sending the message but it never shows up in the conversation and the person I'm sending it to never receives it. When they send me a picture, I get a download failure notification and eventually have to reject the download. I've tried restarting my phone multiple times as well as holding the power key and volume down key (which I was told to use for a previous problem months ago which worked), and deleted some messages and killed all other running apps but nothing is working.

When you are sending/receiving picture texts, do you have mobile data on and wi-fi off?

I have my phone connected to WiFi but I also tried it turning off the WiFi and just using 4G. Neither worked.

Try force stopping the text messaging application. Go to system settings, apps, scroll to all, and select the text app. Select "force stop" and then select "clear data"

bethielynn, I want to make sure your picture messages are working. In order to successfully send and receive picture messages you must be connected to the data network. Are you able to send a picture message to yourself from your phone? Please keep us updated.

I can't text pictures anymore on my droid maxx either. I've tried restarting, clearing data from app, force stop, etc -- none helped. I can't respond to a text with a picture in the thread or a group text with a picture. Any bug fixes coming or any other suggestions?

DrDrewsky,

This most certainly is concerning as it should be working for you. I would love to take a closer look into this. First though, what software version do you have on the phone? Have you ever been able to do this? If yes, when did this change to where you can't send/receive picture messages? Thanks!

The software version is 23.2.24 enUS updated last on 10/31/14. I have always been able to text pictures since phone was new (maybe 2 years now) until about 2 weeks ago. The frame just freezes and text reads "sending..." But it never goes thru. Now it says something like "too many MMS messages in queue" Word texts go thru fine and I can post pictures to Facebook. I can also email pictures. Its just the text messaging that won't send them.

Thanks for responding.

Hello DrDrewsky!

Thank you for providing the information about the device. Let's get to the bottom of this once and for all! Since you are now getting the error message that too many messages are in queue, it seems they have indeed been waiting to send, and the phone will only hold a certain amount.
I'd like to gather some additional data. Are you using the default messaging application, or a third party application? If you're using a 3rd party application, please try with the default messaging application. If you're using the default messaging application, please go into your messaging and delete any unneeded messaging threads. Please also go to settings/application manager/messaging and clear cache and data.

Keep us posted, please!

That is not good. I want to make you are able to to use all the functions on your phone.  How long has this issue been going on for?  Do you have enough memory space on your phone?  Let's get this resolved today.

Ever since the Jellybean update the phone has been junk.  A lot of things no longer work as they used to.  The text messaging while on Wifi thing seems to be Verizon trying to force you to use a Wifi when available which would be great but it blocks you from sending a text message until you turn off the wifi or restart your phone sometimes.  The darn thing just locks up.  I am glad to see its not just me.  I also deleted all unnecessary apps since the phone cannot seem to handle multiple functions.  This did not work either.

Other complaints are slow start up times, not able to make calls when dowloading data, coming off of airplane mode when landing is a joke.  10 minutes before you are able to make a call or use your phone because the phone just cannot seem to handle all of that data transfer.  Again, since Jellybean.  This will be my last Motorola.

I am also having the same issue...cannot send or receive picture messages.  I also cannot receive group messages.  This is very frustrating...there are many text messages I am missing.  I am not getting an error message - I have no way of knowing I am missing a message...people think I am just not responding to them.

We don't want you missing a message, shellabelle. What happens when you send a picture message or group message? Are you using any apps like Verizon Messages or the original text program on the phone? Is your mobile data turned on?

I have the Droid Maxx and since the update of the Android operating system last week, my phone has been experiencing the same issue. It cannot receive or send texts with pictures attached. - And yes data is on. And yes I have tried the Verizon Message app as well. Phone still cannot send of receive texts with pictures attached.

It obvious has to do with the Android 4.4.4 update that occurred last week. And since there seems to  be no workaround for it, is there anyway I can roll back to a prior release?

VZW, I assume you're working this issue with Google?

The Best thing you can do if you can't get the issue to work,  is too call and Talk to a Tech specialist and have them write up a Trouble Ticket.. the more number of customers that report the issues the more that can be done and OS looked at usually running a system cache clear or running a factory reset will resolve most or all issues but if it doesn't then the next thing you can do is call Tech report and try and be patient until something comes out to fix the issue..

Hope this helps b33

Verizon Tech Services:  1-800-922-0204  or *611  use option 3  when automated person ask what you'd like to do say you'd like to talk to a Representative..

Thank you, that did it. I talked to Verizon Tech Services earlier today.

She had me power down my phone, and then she took me off the network and then put me back on. When I then powered my phone back on, this feature worked. I was able again to send and receive pictures sent via text.

(For any others who are still having this problem after the recent update of the Android software, please call VTS and ask them to do the same.)

Thanks again.
