When I am on a phone call for an extended period of time, my Razr gets REALLY hot to the touch. So hot I am afraid when I set it down it will mark the surface.
Should I expect that someday it will get so hot that my chips in the side will become corrupt or even melt inside?

Phones are electrical, so the possibility of it happening are always possible. Mine gets hot by streaming music.

Yes, that is the biggest thing, is it constant, or just under use of the phone? Mine is currently running at 80.6 degrees, but it was on standby.

Well some Apps that Run in the Back Ground might keep the Temps Up it all depends on the apps your Running that's is Why i Suggested Panel app it Will also Show What apps are using energy and ones that are at Idle and not moving hardly at All. Give the App a Try Tell me what you think about it now as i mentioned there is a Free and a Paid Version Paid Version. the Paid Version Gets rid of the Adds and does a Few Steps More but the Free one will get you Going.. Wildman Suggested this App to me Two years ago and if any one know what to do with Computers and Smartphones Wildman Does. If he's on here he'l tell Ya! Right Mr. Wildman!

OK I have been monitoring my pone with that little tool and when I am on the phone for any length of time it goes to 107.4deg. Is this normal? It is really hot holding it. I bought an Otter cover to try to cool it down. Didn’t work.

Morning Jill.. On the temperature you posted on.. it's getting up there were it's a little too warm you might have a app that could be running in the back ground while your Taking that could be Raising the Temperature. When i talk on my Razr Maxx i usually do it Via bluetooth but i understand allot of folks don't like Headsets.. but in your situation you don't want it to burn you either. Mine on a occasion gets that warm Jill but when i talk on mine next to my face it's for only for short time No more than 10 to 15 min.
You could try this if your Display is set to Stay on for a length of time you can adjust it to were it goes off say in 15 sec. You could try this as Well hold your Home but and see if there are any apps Running if so it will show them in a Vertical List to End them just take finger and swipe them off your screen.. to swipe them off put your finger on them and move them to the Right until they disappear..
