Yes. To check go to settings > about phone > phone updates > check now or something similar to that.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Yes go to settings, last item is 'about phone' tap and check for updates.  It takes quite awhile to update though--I think about an hour.

When I check for system updates it just stays in the checking for available update please wait white screen forever, it never says anything about the new update. Does anyone know what I can do? I've tried checking for updates on wifi and 3g and my connections great but it never finds the new update

How do I receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade?

How will my device receive the ICS update?

There will be two primary ways to receive the RAZR and RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich update:  over-the-air (known as OTA) and user initiated.

Over the Air updates (OTA)

You will receive a notification on your phone that the software can be downloaded and then installed.   Due to the volume of users, OTA updates are normally sent in batches over a designated time period (normally several days).

OTA Update Step by Step:

  1. You will receive a notification that an update is available for your device. Tap the Download option to begin
    • Because the downloads are typically large, we recommend a WiFi connection is used and the battery be charged to at least 50%
    • Not ready to download? You will have the option to delay a download several times
  2. Once the download has completed, tap Install now. The device will power off and back on, show a progress bar and an installing icon. Once installation is complete the device will power off and back on again, finalizing the installation
  3. When complete, you will see an install successful confirmation, tap OK

User Initiated

You also have the option of pulling the upgrade for your Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR Maxx manually by going into the settings menu.   If a software update has not been released,  a message will display stating that the phone is up to date.  This is a good way to check if updated software is available for your device!

Note: When manually checking for software you may receive two possible messages;

Check for update not available not available at this time. Try again later - device is not connected to the network server and can't determine if there is an update.

Your Device is up to date! No update is necessary at this time - device is connected to server, and has confirmed that handset has latest SW version available.

User Initiated Step by Step

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > Settings > About phone > System updates > Download
  2. Once the download has completed, tap Install now. The device will power off and back on, show a progress bar and an installing icon. Once installation is complete the device will power off and back on again, finalizing the installation
  3. When complete, you will see an install successful confirmation, touch OK

Click here if you have still not received the ICS software update.

Also you my Try these instructions and hopefully you can get going with some I.C.S..

What should I try if I have not received the ICS software update notification?

The ICS upgrade package should automatically download to the device (unless you have postponed the download), and the device will prompt you to install the package.

If you have postponed the download or the installation, a reminder will pop up every 24 hours.

If you have not received these notifications, then here are some steps for you to try:

Step 1 - Try checking for software updates:

1.  Touch Apps

2.  Touch Settings

3.  Touch About Phone

4.  Touch System Updates

Note: When manually checking for software you may receive two possible messages;

Check for update not available not available at this time. Try again later - device is not connected to the network server and can't determine if there is an update.

Your Device is up to date! No update is necessary at this time - device is connected to server, and has confirmed that handset has latest SW version available.

Step 2 - Check Data Manager settings:

1.  Touch Apps

2.  Touch Settings

3.  Touch Data Manager

4.  Ensure Data enabled, and Background data are checked

Step 3 - Check Sync over Wi-Fi Settings:

Ensure that Sync over WiFi settings are only enabled if device is attached to a WiFi network.  There will be no update if this settings is enabled but WiFi is not enabled.

1.  Touch Apps

2.  Touch Settings

3.  Touch Data Manager

4.  Touch Social Applications

5.  Only enable sync over WiFi if attached to a WiFi network

Step 4 - Check Smart Actions

Ensure Smart Actions does not disable background data sync

1.  Touch Apps

2.  Touch Smart Actions

3.  Temporarily remove any actions that disable Background Sync

Once you have ensured the settings in steps 2-4 are checked and corrected, if needed, then repeat step 1.

If you are still unable to receive the update, another thing you can attempt is a factory reset.

To reset your device:

1. From the home screen of your phone, press the Menu button

2. Tap Settings

3. Scroll down and tap Privacy

4. Tap Factory Data Reset

5. Check Erase internal storage if you would like to erase all the data on the phone internal storage such as applications, music, movies or photos.

6. Tap Reset Phone

After the reset is completed repeat step 1.

Just take it to a Verizon store and ask them to put ICS on it for you. The tech there can do it. That's what they're there for.
