How do I set up fingerprint scanning on a Moto Z force?

ive seen the verizon help topic, saying to go to settings>security>fingerprint....except i have no "fingerprint" section in my security options. my phone is up to date. am i missing something?

Tap where it says Screen Lock, PIN. You'll need to put in your PIN, then you should be given the fingerprint scan option.

Didn't work. Just has swipe, pin, password and none

The only thing I can think of is.. if you have corp email setup (Exchange etc.) that could limit your security choices. Some companies don't allow their employees access to use the fingerprint scanner from what I've read. I know the company I work for didn't allow the iPhone fingerprint scanner in the very beginning. After time the policy was relaxed and I'm now able to use it.
If you don't have corp email setup I'm not sure why it is not an option.

Perhaps having the phone encrypted might be part of the reason? I tried looking for a support document on Motorola's website for it, but the search kept failing to load.
