How do you set your email to manually retrieve?

I recently upgraded from an HTC to the Note 5. The only way I can get my email is to set it to sync. Is there a way to only manually retrieve my email?

settings/accounts/email....select sync

open email/settings/sync & you can select manual, other than peak time, days to sync, etc....

that's how i do it to keep from syncing all day on gmail, yahoo & 2 imap accounts..
