What was your battery reading right after the update when you unplugged the phone? I have never let my Maxx drain further than 20% battery ever before I charge it. Yesterday after the update I also played more with the phone trying to learn the OS, as did most everyone on this forum. Give it a few days of your normal use before you decide your battery life has decreased. I took my phone off charger today at noon, it was 100%, and now it's 80%, with about 30 min talk time, and mostly standby. that's about normal batt life for me, maybe a little better than before the update. I'm still going to watch it for a few days before I make a conclusion about battery life.

No I never let the phone completely die. I have been using smart actions since I've had the phone it's quite a useful app. I disable data and sync for a night timeframe, but can still receive phone calls and texts. Smart actions works quite well you can set a lot of parameters and timeframes for any situation, if you haven't already done so, you should check it out.

Easy to set up, change and disable actions, then go back and enable again. I don't know if Smart Actions is exclusive only to Motorola phones, but it's a great app and should be on all smartphones.

I had crap battery life for the first couple of days. Do a Factory Data Reset and you should be fine. My battery life is back to normal. Smart Actions is pretty cool. You can program your phone not to use data during the night and lots of other cool stuff.

I'm afraid if I do a factory reset that it will screw up an already functioning phone, but I may try it if i find battery life is not as good as before the update.

Well As D.AZ mentioned Smart Action apps can Go a Long Way Spurs as you can set Many things Say you Go to Bed at 11:00Pm after Watching the News you can Set it to Shut down like the N.Radio or Other Functions and if you get up at 7:00 or 7:30 you can program it to Wake it Up. there are Many Possibilities.
As for an F.R. it probably be ok if you have been there Done that Before.. Just don't clear the Internal Storage the Phone Runs on it the SD i would say as Well if it Doesn't need it don't even Mess with it..But the F.R. it self can sometimes Help as it Can clear some old Crud that can Mess with the New.. But again that's Up to You to go threw it..b33

I realize this is an older post, but just curious if there has been any more factual information as to the cause of this and if there is a solution. Prior to upgrading to ICS, my phone (Razr Maxx) would have as much as 70% battery left at the end of a standard day, and I loved this phone for that reason. Now, 40% is pretty normal and have had days where I ran out of battery, which NEVER happened before. The performance drop is significant enough that I feel Verizon should update their talk time specs for this phone because they're no longer accurate. Like I say just wondering if there has been any new developments on this. I am not looking for the, "I THINK this might work" or "TRY this app killer" responses. If you don't know for sure, that's fine; no need to reply.

Many people - myself included - have been helped by wiping the Dalvik cache - there are many posts on the subject, I would start there.

Bad Battery life since the ICS Update is a known problem amongst others including stability. Both Motorola and Verizon have been working on this since the update. The latest software update to correct this problem, I have heard, is to be released sometime in August. They better hurry as it's closing in on the end of the month.

I did a FDR and wiped the cache and that seemed to solve the battery problem for me. After that my battery life was excellent.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Looking forward to this fix/patch from Verizon. If that doesn't happen, I'll try the other suggestions.
Thanks again!
