Jelly Bean update woes?

I've updated my Razr Maxx to Jelly bean through the About Phone > System Updates option. It's been a few days now for all the apps and syncing to have settled down, but I'm still seeing the battery getting chewed through now and it's looking like Android OS is using up close to 60% of the battery (averaging about 58%).
I've also seen that with the update certain apps (bloatware) has been removed. However, I still seem to have a few apps, like MotoACTV & Verizon Videos, present that should have been removed with the update.
I was going to wipe the cache in Recovery Mode before doing a Factory Reset, but holding down the Volume +/- rocker and the power button just boots my phone up normally. Recovery Mode hasn't been removed in Jelly Bean has it? I wouldn't think so.
UPDATE: I did get the boot menu to pop up but when selecting Recovery it only showed me the little Android with an "!" in a triangle over his open chest case... and then it opened right back up as it would normally boot.
Anyone have any similar issues with the update? Any fixes if so?

I went through the update this morning. Everything seems to be working okay, however the speech to text option is not working. When I select the microphone I don't get the prompt to start talking. I've gone into settings to see if there's anything there to change, but I don't see anything. Can anyone assist me please?

Oh, you guys are lucky. Had to get them to send me a replacement Razr as mine wouldn't boot after the update. Rep was friendly and apparently handled 20+ calls on the failed update that DAY. Those techs that post the beta updates to the production server should be fired. You need to freaking test your stupid OS updates before you push them. I understand the stockholders are looking for profit but if people are leaving because you keep breaking their stuff then when the company goes under you're the only one to blame. Also since receiving my new phone it's being a pain to set up. Have to do half of it on my account online from my computer as it won't take inputs from my phone.

Motorola has a method of testing all upgrades using a large number of customers who volunteer to be part of the testing program. I don't know all the details, but it is a rather extensive test situation. They don't roll out an upgrade until/unless it has successfully passed this "soak test" protocol.

So..if I cannot get his feature to work again, either just do with out or possibly reset the phone to factory settings? If that's done..could it make things worse/better or no change?

I've never used that feature, so I don't know if mine works or not. I don't use Verizon texting. However, before I did the JB update, I did a factory reset and cleared the cache. I then reinstalled all of my apps and got all of them set up and working properly. I did this about 2 weeks before the JB update came out, but I wanted the install to go smoothly with no issues. As far as I can tell, that's what happened and I have had zero issues.

Unfortunately I'm not tech savvy so I wasn't aware that a new update was coming out. It was a suprise to me. I guess I will try all options and if need be I'll reset it. I thank you for your time in answering my questions.

it may have been tested but it fries phones. my roomate got the ota leak dec 27 and it made her very stock phone fry. I'm seeing many posts across many forums where people are having the same issue. I wont be upgrading because i have no desire to replace my phone.

She should have never installed the leak. It was bogus.

Actually it was not bogus. At the android users forum and Droid Life there were files for those that did the Christmas Eve Jelly Bean update before it was removed, and the new Verizon Jelly Bean update for those who did not get the previous leaked version. You can google it to see my statement is accurate.
The JB update from the Droid website was the one I downloaded to my darlings Motorola Razr and the transferred it to the SD card as the instructions at the site told you to do.
There was no factory resetting and no removal of any apps or photos etc.
I installed the update file from the SD and everything worked perfectly.
My guess is the ota update is using the main phone memory and I am thinking that one or more system files are being corrupted on update. thed reasons for it I can only imagine.

Can you explain the phrase "it fries phones"? What do you mean "fry"?

It is a terminology used at different forums to mean it makes the cell phone totally un-usable. Other people use the term "Bricked" to mean the same thing.

No kidding.... I was asking ladyneat the question on what she considered fried. It is a common way on different forums to get people to explain their use of a word, a way to get more information.

Makes no difference how "You" meant the question to be. perception based on "your" question to an open forum was you wanted to know what fried meant.
If this was a forum on chickens and you asked that question I would have told you there are different ways to fry chicken.
Southern, Northern and Kentucky Fried

It sounds like your replacement phone has issues also if you cannot set it up from the phone. And as Jim mentioned, the OS updated was tested, so it is not anywhere near "beta" code.
