Just got a Razr Maxx and it's deleting email from my server

HI,
I just realized today that all of my emails got deleted from the server because I deleted them on my phone. I don't see any place to change this setting.
Does anyone know how to change the server setting? On my HTC it was as easy as unchecking a box but I don't see it anywhere.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It might depend on how the account was setup on the phone.

It was setup in the store so I'm not sure what was done.

Gmail or another account?
If it is another account, try removing the account from the phone. If it is Gmail, that is the way it is setup and can't be changed. You can move email to a label and out of your inbox if you want to keep the emails.

open your mail app and select menu then settings. somewhere in your settings (on the tbolt it is in the "send and recieve" settings) there is an option to "delete mail on server." uncheck that box and you'll be set.

On my Razr Maxx when you open the email and select "email settings" the following options come up:
Notifications
Email Delivery
Read Options
Clear search history
List view options
Compose options
Display suggestions
Default mail account
Out of office
Manage address history
and Smart Forwarding
You would think the option to deleting mail would be under "Email delivery" but all that's under that is:
Data push
Fetch schedule
folder sync
and then some wi-fi settings

It almost looks that those are exchange settings. My Hotmail account automatically set itself as an exchange account when I loaded it into my Nexus. I know I don't have the same options with the Nexus in terms of keeping thing on the server like my Tbolt does. The Tbolt has the Hotmail account set up as a POP account which has the option for keep emails on the server. I don't have the Tbolt with me at the moment to get the account server setup to write it out here.
Edit: With the exchange settings, when I delete something on the phone it is deleted on the server. Now if I don't want to see an email, I will move it to another folder.

here is a link to the setup for a pop email account:
http://www.midcocomm.com/resourcecenter/index.cfm/645/1/1
you'll need all of your server setting (incoming and outgoing port, etc). however, you'll notice at the very end the is a box to leave unchecked that says "remove manually deleted emails from the server." i would try to go back into your account setup and make sure it's a pop mail server and then get to the end and uncheck that box.

You were right, I had to manually set it up and then there was the option about deleting mail from the server.
Thank you so much because I would not have found that on my own!

I am having the same problem with my new Razr Maxx deleting e-mails from my server. I uncheck the box "Remove manually deleted emails from the server" box under the Account, Other Settings menu, but it doesn't appear to save the change. When I go back to the home screen and then bact to the email settings, the box has shifted back to checked? How to I keep it from reverting back?
Thanks, Scooty

I spent a couple of hours yesterday talking with 2 VZW CS reps and 3 Motorola Tech reps, who all, initially, told me that they could solve the problem of deleting e-mails from my server when I only wanted to delete them from my RAZR MAXX. A very long story short, it can't be done, currently.
The level 2 tech rep tried to convince me that all Droids, regardless of Manufacturer, were unable to solve this problem. I quickly dissuaded her from that "fact" by giving examples of other Droids that had that ability. Thereafter, I was informed that the problem was with the server (YAHOO!). Wrong again. (see related posts)
One CS said that even though the e-mails were deleted from the server, I could recover them by going into the TRASH basket and moving them to my INBOX. I can't seem to be able to do that, but maybe other servers allow that movement. The deleted e-mails don't show up in my server's trash basket.
Being a Luddite, with many years of Blackberry usage, I can't imagine it being that much of a challenge. Otherwise, I'm stuck with keeping dozens, or perhaps hundreds, of e-mails on my phone until I return to my PC and have time to adequately respond to them.
Who knows if the ICS upgrade will eliminate this problem?

have you tried the above suggestion (from earlier in this thread)? it worked for gamerchic. the folks you dealt with don't know what they are talking about because it can be done. doing it through the settings doesn't always seem to stick, but if you delete the account and make that selection when you set it back up, it should work.

Yes, I tried that suggestion before I called VZW CS. The "step 4" does not appear as an option on my phone, so I can't find the "general settings" option. It immediately asks for my e-mail password and then it says my e-mail has been successfully updated.
Any other ideas?

If I think I will want to open an email on my computer later, I don't delete it from my Droid Razr until later. Every few days, or whenever I think about it, I go into my Droid email folders and delete all the emails. Any emails I want to save, are saved on my computer. I don't save email on my phone or on the server.

Thanks for your time and help.
Unfortunately, I have to keep the e-mails on my server for future uses. I also have to reply and attach information/documents/etc. which are stored on my PC. It's a conundrum that I didn't have to face with all my BBs.

Maybe you could keep them on your computer.

I probably don't understand your suggestion. I can't keep them on my PC until I get back to my office. In the meantime, the e-mails just keep piling up on the phone unless I delete them. If I delete them on the phone, they're also deleted on my PC-at the same time. That's the problem!

There is quite a good amount of space on the DROID Razr that you are not in danger of running out of space by keeping the emails on the phone until you file them away on the computer.

Thanks for your response. I guess I'll have to live with this problem and I'm probably spoiled from using the BB for so many years. It just seems to me to be a simple fix that should have been included at the outset.
