Maxx HD and repetitive SD card unmounting issues

I have a new Maxx HD and installed a formatted 32GB SanDisk Class 10 SD card. The SD card worked fine for a week or so, then all of a sudden the phone tells me I need to mount an SD card and when I check the storage option in settings...it doesn't even show that it's there. THis happened about 4-times over the last month. Usually I had to power off the device, remove my Otterbox cover and then remove the pain in the a** SD/SIM card cover, pull the SD card and reinstall. This usually got things back to normal. However, this morning I can't get the phone to recognize the SD card regardless of what steps I take. I'm at work right now, but tonight I'll put the micro SD card in it's adaptor and I'll see if my laptop recognizes it. That should tell me whether it's a problem with the SD card. This is the only problem I've been having with the phone. Never dropped and always treated with "kid gloves." Anybody know what gives here? Any others experiencing this issue? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. By the way, I'm still on ICS...I haven't seen Jelly Bean offered up yet for Verizon users. (Not sure if that would help or not).
Thanks, Gerry

Do you have another micro SD card you could try? It sounds as if you may have a bad card. Incidentally, I agree about the SD/DIM card cover, that is a pain.
I have had JB installed on my Razr Maxx HD for over 3 weeks now. You may want to try to manually update it. Under =>settings => about phone => system updates.

Yea, when I get home from work I'll pull one of the cards out of my kids Razrs. I'll also place my SD card in the laptop and see if the laptop has any issues with it.
When I check system updates...it tells me that my phone is up to date and gives me no options to do anything else. Am I missing some way to manually install/force an update? Can I just find a downloadable version of JB on-line or something like that to force a manual install?

I found on my Maxx HD that I needed to use either the tool that came with the device or a paper clip to insure the micro SD card was properly inserted and locked. For me a fingernail just would not do the job. I recommend trying this to see if it solves you problem with the card unmounting.
FWIW after using a tool to insert the micro SD card, my SD/SIM door fit a lot better.
Good luck.

I agree, you should make sure the SD card is properly seated in the slot. Push once to seat the card, push again and it will pop out.

C'mon, at 52 and a bit of a tech geek I know how to insert an SD card! I pushed it in until it locks into place...but I'll push again. Maybe I'll just push hard enough to pop the SOB out the other side of the phone just to be sure! LOL

I am on my SECOND Razr Maxx HD (RMHD) and neither of them will mount the SD card (16gb, class 10). I have important back ups that I need on my new phone. It will not mount the SD card at all. The card is good in another phone, a PC and a Mac. I tried a second card (4GB, class 4) and it does the same thing. Good in every device listed above but not in the RMHD. This has been going on for a week and Verizon is dragging their feet. I need a resolution. I like the phone but it doesn't do what I need it to do.
Motorola also will not acknowledge the problem. They want me to send the phone in so they can check it out. There is no loaner available. When I asked them what I should do about having a phone while they look at my phone they just shrugged their shoulders.
There is a lot out there in the different forums but it is maddening that they won't do anything about it. I wonder if the FCC will help.

Format the cards in another device (maybe in the phone that will mount them). Then try them in your Razr Maxx HD. Did they mount? Be sure to fully seat the cards until they click into place (more of a feel than noise).
I have an SD card that worked perfectly for a couple of years in several devices and either my phone or PC or user error corrupted it so that neither the phone nor PC would mount it. The PC would not even format it. I put it in my Nook Color running CM10, formatted it, and then put it back in my phone. Phone (Razr M) happily mounted it and I have used it for weeks.

I have the same issue with the SD card. I had it with the RAZR HD and now with the RAZR MAXX HD. Card works just fine in other phones. I also have issues with it power cycling, locking ALL the time, dropping Wifi and 3G and prompting me to turn off data to avoid International data rates ( am ini the middle of the US). It really is a horrible phone.

Just saw your post....had same issues with the card unmounting, etc., also access door didn't quite fit right. Key was using the Verizon microSD card tool. The pin unlocks the drawer, of course, but you must use the other side of the tool to push the microSD card further into the slot. It fully seats, and the outside end of the card is not near the opening of the slot, in fact it almost disappears into the slot. Reverse procedure to remove, of course.
Can't believe it was such a simple solution, as the card "feels" seated when it's really not.

Yup it's a Spring Mechanism that is part of the Slot that pull the SD an the Sim Card in to Fully seat it) If not for this the Card's especially the Sim would loose Contact with the Towers and cause the phone to work incorrectly.. The Sim tool helps to unseat the Cards and is supposed to help in the Door opening) Kind of wished Moto would've included it with the first Razr and Razr Maxx i seated the Cards in my Razr's with a Round Toothpick Cut flush on one end of it Works pretty good too.. b33
